Escape rooms are popping up everywhere these days, and judging by the reaction to the new Buckingham Palace escape experience, it’s clear this trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. It’s worth noting that London is full of these brain-exercising wonders, though, just in case you aren’t able to grace the royals with an appearance at theirs. Years ago the idea of paying to be trapped in a room may have sounded odd, but now here we are giving you a list of the best escape experiences in the city! While you might not be able to escape this trend, we hope you’re one of the lucky ones who escape these rooms… Good luck!

Mission: Breakout

You won’t want to ghost this one. This unique setup calls itself the most immersive escape experience in London, and it might just be! Located in the abandoned South Kentish Town tube station, you and your team have an hour to break out of the spooky “ghost station”. You’ll be challenged with solving the mysterious puzzles and cracking the codes in either of the location’s two escape rooms to make it out alive.

Being held underground isn’t for the faint hearted. You’ll be working in tight spaces and dealing with flashing lights, just to add to the ominous atmosphere of the station that hasn’t been used since 1924. The historic location gives this escape room an extra real-life feel, so the fear of being locked down in the vast neglected station forever will motivate you and your team to work together and make your way back up to the fresh air and the land of the living.

Escape Rooms London Bridge

Anybody up for some history and horror? Head over to Escape Rooms London Bridge, go back in time and fight your way out of grave peril in one of their two rooms. Think you have what it takes to protect your soul from an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh’s wrath? You have one hour to raid Pharaoh Khufu’s tomb, find his treasure and get back out before you’re destined to spend eternity guarding his tomb along with all the others who have died trying to steal his possessions. Alternatively, head back to 1675 China and prove your innocence to Emperor Kangxi, who has accused you of stealing his prized bronze vase and subsequently ordered your death. Find clues and dodge obstacles before your time – and life – run out.

Escape Entertainment

Take on the role of a lawbreaker and embrace your wild side! Escape Entertainment allows guests to either escape from a 1920s speakeasy while the police are on the verge of breaking in, or else attempt a bank heist to steal the Crown Jewels (which we can’t condone in real life so you may as well seize this chance). Both of these live games were created by professional designers, organisational behaviourists and mathematicians, and the rooms themselves were curated by experts who have worked on movie and theatre sets. Designed to inspire teamwork and an exciting challenge, Escape Entertainment lives up to its name and we definitely recommend paying them a visit!

If you’ve ever dreamed of being a spy, as we all have, join one of clueQuest’s missions and live out your fantasy. Mr. Q’s spy agency needs your help with one of six available missions, from exposing a double agent to escaping a pyramid. Choose a room based on your team’s level of experience, and race against time to prove your potential! This lovable and quirky location has entertained over 275,000 guests since its opening in 2013. You might not believe it but it’s actually family-friendly, so this is a perfect escape room option for those with kids (or adults with low jump scare tolerance).

No Escape

No Escape offers three games between its two locations, and none of them are for the faint-hearted. But for those with a love of gore, murders and hauntings – and we won’t judge – these will be right up your alley. Find yourself trapped in the workshop of a butcher who doesn’t discriminate with the kind of meat he carves up, and try to escape his clutches before you become the next window display. If you hate the dentist- and let’s face it, who doesn’t- come and experience your worst visit yet when you get locked in their office with one hour to live… This definitely isn’t a routine checkup. And dolls have never gone out of style, but there are a few peculiar ones here that seem to have minds of their own…

The fate of the world depends on you in some of these games, so no pressure, and you and your team will face big obstacles and challenges along the way.
