Delicious Dishes To Down This Diwali

7th November 2018

It goes without saying that the Hindu festival of lights, more commonly known as Diwali, brings beauty in so many forms. From the mesmeric colours to the abundance of food enjoyed by families around circular tables, it’s a time where life is celebrated, against all odds. The festival symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance, taking place every Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. Spanning across five days, Diwali itself occurs on the day before the new moon (this year it’s the 7th of November!) in the month of Ashwin. And, in light of this, (excuse the pun) here are some of the best places to feast. Happy Diwali!

Kahani

Kahani

The tasting menu at Kahani triumphs Indian cuisine, with an offering this year of six-course on their menu curated by Peter Joseph. With food as eclectic as the range of lights in the Diwali sky, guests will enjoy dishes including Puffed Brown Rice Chat with Cucumber, Venison Tenderloin Ghee Roast and Masala Chai Ice-Cream, with a fixed focus on rice, the staple ingredient of Indian cuisine. So, if like us you’re intrigued by curry-based ice-cream, and want to sample the goods from a man whose upbringing in Tamil, Nadu, makes his food taste oh, so good, then Kahani’s where it’s at.

Gymkhana

Gymkhana

What with Gymkhana being a Michelin, we’re hoping for a good spread this Diwali, and with an alluring menu featuring classics such as Tandoori Masala Lamb Chop, Boti Kebabs and Guinea Fowl Biryani it doesn’t look as though we’ll disappointed. Instead leaving rubbing our bellies and smacking our lips after a dinner that’s set to be lit by candle-light with a tailored six-course taster menu.

Trishna

Trishna

Following on from Gymkhana, Marylebone-based Trishna is also set to host a candle-lit supper for Diwali this weekend. The menu will focus predominantly coconut as an ingredient, alongside fish, all of which will be paired with wines. The six-course tasting menu calls on flavours from south-west Indian coastal inspired dishes, Koliwada Squid & Shrimps, Hariyali Bream and Meen Manga Curry being three of these.
