The Handbook
The Handbook

Ahoy there! Be the captain of your very own vessel for the day as you embark on a sailing adventure across London. And, oh buoy, does London have boating experiences for you! From BBQing along Regent’s Canal or paddleboarding up and down The Thames. But alas, we’re tying a knot with the puns here as we’ve handpicked our five favourite boating experiences just for you, bon voyage!

Picnicking While You Row

Grab the prosecco darling, we’re going picnicking…

Jump on board the Go Boat express and be your own captain for the day. Yep, that’s right they’re letting you loose along the canal driving a boat without needing a boating licence. GoBoat allows you to see the city from a new perspective, away from the crowds and tourist filled streets. As you’re the captain of the vessel, you’ll be choosing your own route starting at their location in Paddington. You’ll be sharing the experience with up to eight people around a sociable picnic table so make sure you remember to pack up your hamper stuffed with strawbs and all.

You just might want to pop your life jacket on because we’re not sure we trust Aunty Sue’s steering skills either…

Where: Paddington / Kingston

BBQing Your Way Along The Thames

All aboard the HotTug express! We’ve found the ultimate hot tub experience just for you. Pop your best swimwear on because thanks to Hot Tug you can now sail up and down Regent’s Canal aboard a floating hot tub.

Alternatively, if you’re fancying a BBQ in the warm weather but can’t find the perfect spot, they’ve even got BBQ boating options too! Rustle up a banger on the barby or, sizzle a block of juicy halloumi, stuff it into a bun, and you’ve got yourself one scrummy lunch with a view! Bon appétit!

Where: Angel / West India Quay

The Ulitmate Party Boat

Grab your boat-tie, we’re jumping on board the ultimate party boat! Long gone are the days of the party bus, we’re all about the party canalboat! Pop on your best sailor suit and celebrate your special day in style as you cruise along the canal with Hidden Depths Canal Cruises. If your party is a more intimate experience with up to 12 of you, Joan will be your vessel for the afternoon or, if you’re a bigger group of up to 42, Freda, which is a Lapwing lookalike but longer, will guide you down the canal with the opportunity of cruising through the 200 year-olds mile-long Islington tunnel (it’s one of the longest in Britain!).

So pack your picnic, pop the champers and let the good times row…

Paddleboard along the Thames

While you won’t be dining in this instance, you’ll certainly be making a splash or two as you paddle your way up and down The Thames. The aim of the game is to paddle along with an ore whilst standing on a surfboard-eque style board, sounds easy right? Well, you’ll need some good balance or at least some charisma in order to style out your fall as you make your way along the river with Active360.

Where: Kew Bridge Arches, Strand-On-The-Green, W4 3NG

Cocktails Ahoy!

Jump on board the Alfred Le Roy for a boozy canal experience… We’re a sucker for a snazzy cocktail with a view and what better way to spend your afternoon than chucking back a cocktail or two! Every Saturday throughout the summer board the canalboat for a cocktail fused ride while you soak up what’s left of the summer heat.

They’ve also got celebration deals so whether you’re looking for somewhere to hold your wedding reception or, a corporate event, Alfred is the perfect spot for an unique boating experience!
