Shrove Tuesday, a.k.a Pancake Day, a.k.a the best day EVER, is happening on the 5th of March and we’re all a fluster with excitement. It’s the day that sees people all over attempt the pancake flip in vain and others making the hard life choice of sugar and lemon or something far more extravagant. Either way, there are some flippin’ delicious pancakes on offer across London, from ones doused in matcha to man vs. pancake challenges to the much-adored classics, you batter get your pancake game on at these places:
The Restaurant at Sanderson knows that sometimes less really is more as they keep things oh, so classic this Shrove Tuesday. All day they will be running a live crêpe station – now there are three words we’ve always dreamed of hearing – featuring pancakes with lemon and sugar. Delicious!

We’ve all heard the saying “go hard or go home,” and, in this context, it turns out Smith & Wollensky will be doing anything but go home this Pancake Day, creating their biggest ever pancake stack that’s got us salivating. The steak restaurant will be holding a Man vs Pancake challenge which doesn’t sound like too mean a feat! If you manage to combat the pancakes in all of their gloopy goodness then you walk away for free but you’ve got to do it under an hour (and not be sick, of course). So, for one day and one day only fill your boots and bellies with pancakes – good luck!

When you’re a house called Where The Pancakes Are, it’s safe to say you’re going to produce some absolute whoppers come the big day. This year, they will be extending their opening hours too 7am to midnight and hosting a pop-up in Flat Iron Square. There, dear pancake lovers, you will find a limited edition pancake called A Very Lemony Affair featuring two fluffy buttermilk pancakes, lemon and sugar-coated pistachios, candied lemon peel ricotta cream, lemon zested raspberries, more zest, more lemon and a bit of sugar! And, to work off your pancakes, why not take part in a three-legged pancake flipping race and lemon bobbing?
Phwoar – take a look at that stack of gloopy goodness that Mews of Mayfair has rustled up. If you like Piña Colada then you’re in luck as, thinking ahead to sunnier climes, they’ve created some totally moreish pancakes of that flavour made with pineapple, coconut compote, Captain Morgan rum syrup and coconut yoghurt. You’ll be able to devour the tasty treats at the pop-up pancake station in Mews Art Gallery, but be quick because we’ve got an inkling that they’re going to be popular!

Mmm, Balthazar has got some scrumptious pancake offerings this Shrove Tuesday. We’re talking a breakfast of dreams featuring American blue berry stacks with warm fresh berry compote and whipped vanilla cream, and all day offerings which includes the classic of pancakes with vanilla sugar and lemon and Socca Pancake with spiced aubergine and courgette, pine nuts & minted goat cheese curd. Egg-cellent!

If you think that fish are sexy, then you’re going to love pancakes. Especially when they’ve had a kimchi makeover. Sexy Fish, one of our favourite Mayfair hangouts will be offering a Shrove Tuesday treat with a kimchi pancake served with crispy lobster and smokey Marie Rose sauce.

Completely subverting the pancake norm is Avobar with their green matcha alternatives that we can’t get enough of! Championing all things avo, the restaurant will serve their healthy pancakes with knob of melting avo-butter and in either sweet or savoury form. So, whether you fancy a topping ofsticky caramelised banana and a generous shot of maple syrup, or if you’re all about breakfast-style crispy bacon and fried egg, the choice is most certainly yours!
Our millennial, pink-hued fave – Kalifornia Kitchen – has produced unique pancakes that’ll pander to anyone who fancies a pancake with delicious ingredients on top… um, so everyone! The gluten free offering will see KK’s signature signature buckwheat and banana pancakes covered in coconut yoghurt, caramelised bananas and almond brittle. Hurry up pancake day!
Gillray’s are all for promoting the naughty pancake this Shrove Tuesday, with their delectable pancakes with gin offering. The gin giants are renowned for their prowess when it comes to the spirit and, knowing this, they’ve created a pancake doused in caramelised pink grapefruit, which you can enjoy by three’s for just £5! Well, we batter take them up on that offer…

This Shrove Tuesday STK are getting the gang together by enticing them with a menu to satisfy all tastebuds. Crepes will ricochet between sweet and savoury, from chicken pot pie and asparagus crepe gratin to an all berries crepe with Cointreau sabayon and a delicious Rum flambee banana and dark chocolate crepe with vanilla ice cream. We’ll take the lot!

It’s pancake o’clock at the restaurants that serve up some of the most delicious food in the whole of London – there, we said it! Tom’s Kitchen restaurants are giving us the gift of gourmet this pancake day, seen in the form of baked crab and spring onion pancake or the potato pancake with duck egg and mushroom ragout. For dessert, if you’re still able to squash in another pancake, you can feast on chocolate brownie crepes with choc ice cream and dark chocolate sauce. Enjoy!
