My Life In Beauty: Trinny Woodall Reveals The Beauty Products & Advice She Swears By
Well-known and universally loved for her honest, genuine opinion and style advice, Trinny Woodall has always had a passion for makeup & skincare, and fast recognised that fashion and beauty go hand-in-hand. In 2017, Trinny London was born from Trinny’s kitchen table, “to give everyone the tools they need to feel their best”. It was quickly established as having multitasking, no BS products that deliver, with consistent sell-outs and lengthy waiting lists with every new product launch.
Here, we question the fabulous Trinny Woodall, because frankly we’re obsessed with her and her ever-expanding, best-selling beauty range that gives seriously great results, every time.
What is your first beauty memory?
My first skincare purchase was Clinique’s 3-step skincare, which I bought at Lord and Taylor in New York in 1978. I remember it so well because I had bad skin at the time, and they had this little device which you slid up and down to look at what skin type you were. It seemed so ahead of its time, there really was nothing like it. Up until that point my mother had just bought me Nivea and Boots No.7.
What are your beauty golden rules?
Cleanse your skin twice a day. And however late a night you’ve had, never ever go to bed with your makeup on. It’s just a habit that will set you up for life and give you discipline in your skincare routine.
Who is your inspiration?
Iris Apfel is my true inspiration. She has endless energy. She has an individual style. She’s not scared of taking risks. I love her fashion sense! And she’s 101, a truly amazing age.
What is your best product and why?
For me, the best product is the one you see the greatest improvement from, so it must be my Plump Up serum. It really tightens and plumps my skin and makes me not only look better but feel better. Hand on heart it has truly transformed my sagging skin.
What are you go-to skin saviours?
I will still double cleanse at night, and make sure I take all makeup off and then put a gel cleanser on top. Typically, I will use a balm for this, and one I love is from Organics. They do a competitively priced balm which is I think about £12, it’s so good and it on par with all the expensive balms. Then I use Julia Hunter Cleansing Gel on top, which is an American Doctors Brand, followed by a vitamin C product every day. I also use SPF, it’s so important to use every day so I swear by our SPF – Trinny London BFF Cream. I’m also trying out loads of different serums at the moment for filming. So I go on a rotation, and I usually do one side of my face with one serum and one side of my face with another. Right now, I’ve been using Allies of Skin Vitamin C on one side, and I’ve been using Garden of Wisdom C-Deep Vitamin C Serum on the other. I’ve got to say that they’re both equally as good, and one is over £100 and the other is £18.
And your makeup bag heroes?
For makeup, Trinny London’s BFF Cream for every single day because of the SPF, and the glow it gives, plus, Trinny London’s BFF Eye Serum, because I work long days, and it gives my eyes such a lift (it’s like an eye cream and a serum had a baby together). Then for eyeshadow, I use my favourite Trinny London Eye2Eye in Wisdom, it’s a neutral shade which works with everything. Finally, I use Trinny London’s Sheer Shimmer in MAMA, on my lips and cheeks.
Have you got a signature scent?
This is a tricky one for me as I absolutely love perfume, but my signature scent I would say is probably Woody Fig by Samuel Gravan. It’s a fragrance I came across in Australia when I was on a trip there, and I have ordered it directly ever since. Samuel is a small perfumier and always lets me know when a new batch is ready, which I love. I just find the whole experience of buying it from him is so much more than just running into a shop, because I feel the history of the fragrance it’s created and developed. It’s such a gorgeous smell.
