The Trailer For Netflix’s East Of Eden Starring Florence Pugh Is Officially Here

Anything Florence Pugh is in, we’re sure to watch- but while the Oscar-nommed actress is starring in the likes of Dune and The Avengers later this year, her upcoming Netflix series has very much caught our attention. East of Eden is a limited TV series that will be arriving on the streamer this Autumn, adapting John Steinbeck’s novel, and tells the stories of two interwoven families: the Trasks and the Hamiltons. The trailer has officially arrived – here is everything you need to know:
What is East of Eden about?
Much like Little Women (for which Florence Pugh got her Oscar nomination), East of Eden is based on one of the classic American novels. John Steinbeck is most famous for the Great Depression stories of Of Mice and Men and The Grapes of Wrath, but the 1952 novel is a bit different- and the author himself called it his best work. It follows multiple generations of the Trask and Hamilton families in California, and their ups and downs, along with themes of good and evil. This new adaptation is being written by Zoe Kazan, who’s starred in the likes of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and She Said. Pugh will be taking the role of Cathy Ames, one of the most important characters in the story- and the book’s main antagonist.

The novel also has biblical themes and is something of a retelling of Cain and Abel. One of the other key characters is Adam Trask (played by The Sinner’s Christopher Abbot), who marries Cathy but soon finds that it will not be an easy relationship, as she reveals her true colours. The couple have two sons, Cal and Aron, who are portrayed as opposites: Aron (played by I Am Ruth’s Joe Aders) tends to be inherently “good”, while Cal (We Were Liars Joseph Zada) is a more complex figure who is keen to get his mother’s approval. It’s a big, complex book, and the story should make for one of Netflix’s most ambitious series yet.
The cast
Beyond Pugh, other notable cast members include Mike Faist (of Challengers fame) alongside Hoon Lee (Your Friends And Neighbours) and Ciaran Hinds (Belfast).
Release date
While an exact release date is yet to be announced, the new trailer has revealed the show will stream on Netflix this autumn.
