The Weekend Edit: H&M Team Up With Fashion Icon Iris Apfel
Everything you need to know about H&M’s latest collaboration with the grande dame of New York’s fashion scene, Iris Apfel.
When H&M launch one of their hotly-anticipated collaboration collections, you can be sure it’s going to sell out. The latest, launching today, celebrates 100 years of one of the fashion world’s most colourful and curious characters, Iris Apfel, and we expect by the time you’ve finished reading this article, it may already have sold out completely.
The line comprises clothing, shoes and accessories and as you’d expect it’s a riot of colour, print and eccentricity. Inspired directly from Apfel’s incredible wardrobe, expect colour clash tassel adorned jackets, jacquard pants in jewel tones and costume jewellery so big it could sink the Titanic. And while most of us don’t have the aplomb to pull a ‘full look’ off like Iris would, taking just one item – the brocade loafers with your favourite jeans or the citrine jacquard trousers with a crisp white shirt – and you’ve immediately pepped up your wardrobe with some Apfel energy, joy and colour.
The world’s best dressed centenarian’s back story is just as colourful as her wardrobe too, with work that includes everything from modelling contracts at the age of 97 to interior design for the White House, book deals and an exhibition at NY’s esteemed Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This is my tribute to freedom of style – proof that, as long as you’re true to yourself, you’ll look wonderful.
The line with the Swedish retailer is just another string to her very colourful bow and she has said of the collection, “This is my tribute to freedom of style – proof that, as long as you’re true to yourself, you’ll look wonderful.”
At 100-years-old, it looks like Iris is just getting started.
Iris Apfel X H&M launches in-store and online on 31st March 2022.
