Not something I ever expected to say, but yes, I am secretly hankering after a pair of good ol’ wellies. What has happened? I’ll tell you what’s happened… I’ve been influenced. For years, I associated Wellington boots with practical attire and with sloshing throughppuddles on country walks. That is, until they became iconic, a cultural symbol of British rock n roll.

Picture Kate Moss at Glastonbury circa 2005 in muddy Hunter boots. The brand’s Original Wellington Boot, first introduced in 1956, became synonymous with cool. As the seasons passed, everyone from Daisy Edgar-Jones to Alexa Chung hit the festival scene in wellie boots. But, if I’m not pitching my tent and hitting up a water-logged music fest, would I really wear them?

Well, if the catwalks play a part, then yes. Prada, Dior and Chanel have all created their own luxe wellies. Cue numerous content creators working them into their wardrobes. In the last six months alone, multiple stylish folk and cool girls have flooded my socials in quirky yet chic fits, accessorised with the aforementioned wellie boots. I’m not going to lie, Hunters remain the faves, but others are getting their moment in the spotlight, notably Le Chameau and Barbour. If you’re baulking at those price tags, then fear not, Next, Asda and M&S have their own rubber iterations – minus the branding, obviously, but splatter with a little mud, and you’re none the wiser. Meanwhile, I’m off to shop for mine. Personally, I’m thinking red. Especially when they can look this good…

Make like the irrefutably stylish Sara Corbett-Winder and opt for a pair in fiery red. So very fabulous!
