The New Romantic Dramedy Everyone’s Talking About

9th March 2023 | By Rufus Punt

From Nolly to A Spy Among Friends, ITV has been releasing hit after hit over the last few months. Their latest project You & Me is a bit more of a comedy, written by actor Jamie Davis, and is all about the love lives of three young characters living in London, each dealing with tragedy while trying to navigate the modern world.

Davis is making his screenwriting debut with You & Me, having appeared in shows like Shameless, Switch and Casualty. The series focuses around three different personalities: Ben (Industry’s Harry Lawtey), a northerner living in London who’s struck by a catastrophe on what was the happiest day of his life becoming a father, Emma (The End Of The F***ing World’s Jessica Barden), a theatre actor who conceals tragedy while making a name for herself, and Jess (The Witcher: Blood Origin’s Sophia Brown), a woman who’s life changes while chasing down a bus. Their three lives are intertwined, as the characters’ stories from before and after their tragedies are told across two different timelines.

Can Ben, Emma and Jess move past their tragic experiences, and find love again? The series trailer gives a bit of insight into the dramatic side of the show, with Ben recounting that “eight years ago I met Jess…what happened changed my life forever.” Emma meanwhile is seen sat up in bed, saying “I didn’t think I’d ever feel happy again…but happy and safe aren’t always the same thing.”

There’s not a lot given away in the trailer, but it seems like something serious happened to Jess and Ben’s relationship, and things are certainly up in the air: “how does this story end? I don’t know.” It’s certainly intriguing, and it looks like there’ll be some heartrending scenes- but ITV is still billing the show as a comedy-drama, so expect some fun and exploration of love too.

All three parts of You & Me are available now through the ITVX streaming service
