Margot Robbie captured the world with Barbie, and Colin Farrell won a Golden Globe for his main role in The Penguin last year. Naturally, then, a pairing of the two together on the big screen makes sense, and we’re thankfully getting just that this week with the romantic fantasy film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, hitting UK cinemas on 19th September.

It’s Robbie’s first film since the huge success of Barbie, and tells the story of two strangers who meet by chance, embarking on a fantastical journey through time. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is A Big Bold Beautiful Journey about?

While A Big Bold Beautiful Journey has two of Hollywood’s biggest stars in the main roles, there isn’t a huge amount about the film’s plot and characters that’s been publicly revealed. Robbie and Farrell play two strangers to each other, Sarah and David, who meet by chance at a wedding. The two get talking and (this is a fantasy romance movie, after all) agree to go together on a journey back in time. Their odyssey into the past will change them as people, as well as bring them closer together than either could have possibly imagined.

One of the other factors making A Big Bold Beautiful Journey so enticing, other than the two main stars, is its director, Kogonada. The Korean-American filmmaker made the critically acclaimed films Columbus and After Yang (which also starred Farrell), and also ventured into TV directing with the widely praised Apple TV+ drama, Pachinko. With such strong previous projects, it could well be an awards success as well as box office-wise.

Who else stars in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey?

Alongside the headline names of Robbie and Farrell, the film is also set to star Fleabag star and Killing Eve creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, as well as American Horror Story star Lily Rabe. Other cast members confirmed to be involved are Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen and Slim), Billy Magnussen (The Franchise), Sarah Gadon (True Detective), Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass) and Chloe East (The Heretic).
