One of the world’s most acclaimed actors is returning to the screen: Daniel Day-Lewis, known for his roles in films like Lincoln, Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood, confirmed that he’s coming out retirement to act in a new film- generating plenty of buzz. The thespian is set to star in a new film entitled Anemone, which is currently in development and likely to arrive on screens sometime next year, though there’s no release date yet. Here’s all we know so far

What’s Anemone about?

This isn’t the first time Day-Lewis has come out of retirement, having taken breaks from acting a number of times- but he seemed to have finally thrown in the towel following the fashion film Phantom Thread. Over his career, he won three Academy Awards for My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood and Lincoln, and so his return to the film world this year was always going to cause a stir.

But what do we know so far about the cryptically named Anemone? The project is being helmed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis in his directorial debut, and is in production with a script penned by both Daniel and Ronan. Perhaps unsurprisingly then, the plot is set to be about family dynamics between fathers and sons, as well as siblings. An anemone is a type of flower- but it’s anyone’s guess as to how that may factor into the film itself.

Who else stars, and what else do we know?

Not much else is known about the drama, including who Day-Lewis will play or quite what type of film it will be, but the multi-Oscar winner isn’t the only familiar face in the cast. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star Sean Bean will also be appearing, alongside Samantha Morton (The Whale), Safia Oakley-Green (The Lazarus Project) and Samuel Bottomley (The Last Rifleman).

Filming for Anemone is now underway, with production taking place in Chester. It’ll likely be quite some time until a trailer is revealed showcasing the latest Daniel Day-Lewis performance, so keep an eye out for further updates in the future.
