Everything We Know About The New Dexter Series, Resurrection
The exploits of Dexter Morgan continue: three years after Dexter: New Blood and coming after last year’s prequel Dexter: Original Sin, the murderous protagonist played by Michael C. Hall returns for another continuation series. Dexter: Resurrection picks up pretty much immediately from where New Blood left off, with Dex now in New York City, following the disappearance of his son Harrison (Jack Alcott).
But the law is not far behind, and there are a lot of unanswered questions that need answering- here’s what we know so far.
What is Dexter: Resurrection about?
The ending of New Blood certainly seemed like a pretty definitive end to the Dexter saga, with the character shot and apparently killed. However, nothing is ever that simple with Dexter (or TV in general), and it announced that a follow-up series would continue his story, alongside the prequel Original Sin. Original Sin, which arrived late last year, is principally telling the origin story of the anti-hero in Miami, but it also provided a tease that Dexter had survived the shooting and was being taken to the hospital in its opening scene, as well as narrating the action. In New York City, several weeks post his near-death experience, Dex is on the trail of the missing Harrison, who disappeared after shooting his own father.
But while father is chasing son, someone else is on Dexter’s trail: Capt. Angel Batista (David Zayas), who’s been a mainstay of the entire Dexter story since the first season back in 2006, is keeping tabs on the killer from Miami. Dexter himself is hesitant about contacting his son after everything that happened, creating a “pervasive tension” as Michael C. Hall put it in an interview with Vanity Fair. As Dexter prepares to see his son again and get used to being alive again, there’ll almost certainly be plenty more of the hallmarks we’ve all grown to love from the show. So if you considered the finale of New Blood to be a bit of a let down, Resurrection promises to wipe the slate clean.
Who else stars?
What’s also exciting about this new Dexter outing is the cast: several iconic Dexter characters will be appearing again, such as John Lithgow’s highly popular Trinity Killer, but there’ll also be a slate of newcomers. Perhaps the biggest name is Uma Thurman (Kill Bill), who’ll be playing the head of security for a powerful billionaire, played by Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones). Others confirmed to be in the cast include Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) David Dastmalchian (Late Night With The Devil) and Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad). There’s no set release date for the new series, so watch this space for more info when we get it.
