The weather might not have realised it yet, but we’re just inches away from summer. With longer evenings and two bank holiday weekends, May brings lots more time and opportunity for fun. From furious(a) cinema releases and immersive murder mystery experiences to the next hit Netflix show and a hyped new Mexican restaurant, here’s everything that should be on your cultural radar for May.

The Film To Watch: Furiosa

The eagerly (and nervously) awaited follow-up to Mad Max: Fury Road promises to be the adrenaline-pumping hit of the summer. Exploring the backstory of the character of Furiosa, Anya Taylor-Joy plays a younger version of Charlize Theron‘s iconic role.

The original was nigh-on a perfect film, so if the sequel is even half as good, it will be a certified hit.

The Book Everyone Will Be Talking About: Caledonian Road

Primed to be a book talked about in London circles all summer long, Caledonian Road follows the year-long public downfall of celebrity Art Professor and Historian Campbell Flynn.

Amid an ensemble cast of characters around North London, this doubles up as a state-of-the-nation novel, illuminating the shimmering sordid underbelly of 2020s London with Russian gangs and dodgy wealth running the show. One to add to the list.

The TV Series To Binge: Bodkin

Netflix has, to be kind, a spotty track record when it comes to depicting Ireland (Irish Wish is a recent nadir in this category). Normally, when I see a new depiction representing my home country, I brace for impact, much like preparing for an airplane crash.

But new series Bodkin, a true crime comedy-thriller, actually looks good? Following an American Podcaster and Irish Detective investigating a 25-year-old mystery in a seemingly idyllic coastal Irish town, this looks to be one of the sharpest and most original Netflix releases this year.
