heartstopper forever

One of the most popular shows made by Netflix in the past few years has been Heartstopper, the charming yet often emotional LGBTQ show about two young men who fall head over heels for each other- and the obstacles and challenges they face. After a successful third season, Netflix announced that Heartstopper would return one more time as a feature film, serving as the series finale.

Heartstopper Forever brings back Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke), who are happily together- but know that they’re about to go through the changes and life choices that come with the end of school and the start of university. Here’s all we know ahead of the July release date:

What is Heartstopper Forever about?

Heartstopper Forever picks up after the events of season three, which saw Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) happier than ever and seemingly inseparable. Their blissful relationship continues into this, where we find them now, but things are about to get shaken up. A major change in their lives is looming on the horizon: Nick is preparing to leave for university, while Charlie is beginning to find greater confidence and independence in his own life. It’s the period of transformation and new starts that all young people go through, and suddenly, the reality of a long-distance relationship becomes impossible to ignore.

As our two beloved main characters begin thinking about the futures stretching ahead of them, doubts and worries start creeping in. We all know how tricky it can be for young relationships to last – can first love survive the transition into adulthood? And what happens when two people who have become such an important and loving part of each other’s lives are forced onto separate life paths? According to series creator and writer Alice Oseman, the film will explore themes of time, memory, change and the challenge of making love last as life moves forward.

Of course, Nick and Charlie aren’t the only characters facing big decisions. Their friends, like Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (Will Gao), are also navigating relationships, personal growth and the bittersweet reality of growing up. It’s all heading to an emotional, tearjerking finale that, like the show before it, tells a very modern coming-of-age story.

What else do we know, and who else stars?

If you’re desperate for more glimpses at Heartstopper Forever, you’ll have to wait a little longer, as a first trailer has yet to drop- we’ll update this piece when it does. Other returning cast members include Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Tobie Donovan and Rhea Norwood. Excitingly, there are also some big guest stars making appearances in the finale film, including stars Anna Maxwell Martin and Sir Derek Jacobi.

When does it release?

The good news is that fans of the show won’t have to wait long to watch the finale, with Heartstopper Forever set to premiere globally on Netflix on 17 July 2026, bringing the Heartstopper story to a close.
