Whether you’re looking for some reliable boots to take you all those chilly winter walks (preferably with a cosy country pub at the end) or are contemplating signing up for theThree Peaks Challenge, scroll our edit of the best hiking boots that aren’t completely hideous. Although, if it’s the latter, do your homework, we’ve handpicked these purely on fashion prowess rather than function.

Technical fashion is everywhere right now, from the hipster’s identikit Solomon trainers to rain coats that look cool whilst keeping the coif in place. Hiking boots have been getting a lot of airtime in recent years, too, with high-end brands like Jimmy Choo, Chloé and Bottega all getting in on the action.

There’s plenty of mid-range brands who have followed suit, such as Scandi cool-girl label, GANNI, and quintessentially NYC brand, Tory Burch, both who have taken the winter staple and given it some guts with slick detials, whether that’s colour-blocking design or oversized track soles, statement laces or cosy fur-lined details.

And whilst the hiking boot – even if it is a fashion hiking boot – really comes into its own when treading the hills and fields of the countryside, it can actually work really well in the city too, giving more polished outfits an edgier, cooler feel. For example, a chunky black walking boot paired with a billowing midi skirt, thick cashmere socks and an oversized roll neck really works.

The rest of the time we’ll be pairing with our weekend uniform of baggy jeans, knits and a cosy shearling coat.
