Kate Middleton’s Latest Outfit Is A Brilliant Break From Tradition

London Fashion Week took over the capital last month, with King Charles III even in attendance at one particular designer’s show: Tolu Coker. Now, the Princess of Wales has followed suit, literally, by donning the same designer for her latest public appearance.
The outfit in question
In case you missed it, Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed the Nigerian President and First Lady to Windsor this week.
“A pleasure to welcome Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to Windsor this morning 🇳🇬🇬🇧”, read the post shared on the royals’ Instagram account.
For the occasion, Kate opted for a grey and white double-breasted coat by the British Nigerian designer, featuring a striking lapel and matching fascinator, with lace-up corset detailing at the back – a distinctly fashion-forward touch for a royal.
For context, the Princess usually sports designs from the likes of McQueen and Catherine Walker; however, Tolu Coker was an early beneficiary of The Prince’s Trust, receiving mentorship and support, before going on to become a beloved name on the London Fashion Week circuit, making the latest switch-up a perfectly fitting choice.
The internet’s reaction
Fans took to the comments section to share their love for the Princess’ latest look, writing: “A beautiful welcome 🙏🇳🇬 I just love the corset detail at the back of Catherine’s coat 🩶 and a lovely touch that the coat was designed by a British-Nigerian designer 🙏”.
Others were quick to point out that the shade of Kate’s outfit is a notable departure from her usual style, adding, “This is the first time I’ve seen Princess Kate in this color, it’s gorgeous.😍” and “We don’t often see Princess Kate in Grey it’s a beautiful coat and hat 🥰”.
