Eva Longoria’s New Dramedy Land Of Women Is Out On Apple TV+

Finished the latest season of Bridgerton? Binged through Benedict Cumberbatch‘s thriller Eric? Apple TV+’s new series, Land of Women, is a new thriller miniseries that’s arrived on the streamer last week, and it’s a perfect summer watch while you’re waiting for new episodes of House of the Dragon.
Led by Eva Longoria, who’s also set to appear later this year in Season 4 of Only Murders in the Building, it follows a New York woman whose comfortable life is thrown in disarray when her husband gets tangled in debt with shady figures- so she takes flight to northern Spain.

What is Land of Women about?
Gala (Longoria) is a well-to-do New Yorker leading a stable and prosperous life in the big city, and in fact it’s pretty much perfect: luxury fashion, expensive watches, chauffeured cars, and a happy family. It seems very little can go wrong, until it does. “Yesterday, my life was perfect, at least I thought it was” she says in the opening lines of the trailer, with flashes of that ideal life appearing on screen. But things quickly appear wrong when Fred, her husband, doesn’t appear at an event she’s expecting him to attend, and she begins to get concerned. Not only that, but she’s accosted by two men who tell her she owes them a lot of money ($15 million to be exact), and gives her the classic thriller deadline of 24 hours before they start to come after the rest of her family. With Fred telling her to get out and leave New York, Gala has little other choice.

Gala visits her mother, Julia (played by Carmen Maura) to head to Julia’s hometown in the north of Spain, along with her daughter Kate (Victoria Bazua) to try and hide away. Julia herself had fled her home decades ago, but now the family seeks a new life and hidden identities. However, this quiet little wine town is rife with gossip, and soon they’re not able to keep as anonymous as they’d hoped.
With dark family secrets and revelations surfacing, Gala isn’t sure if she can ever go back to her previously perfect life.
With dark family secrets and revelations surfacing, Gala isn’t sure if she can ever go back to her previously perfect life. Despite the quite serious concept, it’s not all dark, with the thriller mixing in elements of comedy to keep things on the lighter side. The trailer ends with the family again confronted by the debt collectors, with Julia darkly saying “Is it okay to open a bottle of wine? I don’t want to die sober”- earning a disapproving look from Gala.
