18 Awesome Pop- Ups and Supper Clubs in October

We’re into the last quarter of the year and before we get stuck into Christmas there is still time for game menus, truffles, Diwali celebrations and as always, afternoon teas  – although this time they come with champagne fountains…


What: Laurent Perrier Afternoon Tea

Why: Guided by a charming Victorian butler (obviously not an actual Victorian butler, that would be crazy and impossible) the decadent afternoon tea will take place for two afternoons and will feature everything you’d expect: sandwiches, scones and cakes and things you wouldn’t, like a champagne fountain. Yes, a Laurent-Perrier champagne fountain and the chance to win a magnum of Laurent-Perrier.

What: Calabrian Supper at Bocca Di Lupo

Why: This month’s ‘regional takeover’ with critically acclaimed Italian restaurant Bocca di Lupo celebrates the region of Calabria. And we’re spaghetting very excited indeed about what’s to come – Sundays throughout the month will see the private dining room transformed into a convivial feasting den, where diners can tuck into four courses of what the Italians do best, food (although they seem pretty good at flirting, too). We love a Sunday roast but we fancy a change – and this is a good place to start, with dishes including spaghetti al capretto with roasting juices from kid goat ribs, and crucette, a crucifix of dried figs baked with walnuts, cloves and cinnamon and served with fig leaf gelato.

What: Sake Dinner at Ginza Onodera

Why: Premium Japanese restaurant Ginza Onodera kicks off its rare sake dinner series to offer you lucky Londoners a five-course feast with four sakes, plus green tea (so if anyone asks, it’s for your health…). Each course will be carefully paired with rare Tedorigawa sakes, and when we say rare we mean rare – one is Tsuyusanzen Nama Daiginjo, of which there are only 24 bottles imported to London per year. Japanese delights on the menu include trademark teppan-yaki and robata dishes, plus signature sushi like scallops with myoga and truffle oil, yellowtail with tororo konbu, and prawn with caviar. So for heaven’s sake, don’t miss this series!

What: Fortnums Pasta Supper with Angela Hartnett

Why: If we had a penne for every time we craved a big bowl of pasta we’d probably be on a yacht in Mauritius by now. Still no yacht, but luckily Fortnum & Mason is partnering with chef Angela Hartnett and Café Murano to put together a standout, four-course pasta supper. Hartnett will be cooking her expertly made pasta – usually only available at the Café Murano restaurants – right on The Gallery restaurant floor, so you can watch the feast being made before devouring it faster than you can say ravioli. Tuck into the range of canapés before the starters, pumpkin and amaretti tortellini and rigatoni with wild mushroom ragout. Next up is the braised beef polenta, followed by walnut cake with mascarpone cream, with Italian wines from Fortnum’s cellar paired with each course.

What: Dante NYC Pop-Up at Madison Rooftop Bar

Why: From the Big Apple to London – Dante NYC, voted one of the World’s Best Bars, is residing at Madison Rooftop Bar for its first ever pop-up in London and making the skyline views even better with its knockout cocktails. Aperitivo Hour, between 4pm and 9pm, will transport you to New York with some of Dante’s greatest hits, including the Garibaldi and the Italian Sour, as well as cocktails from its ‘Negroni Sessions’ like the Chocolate Negroni. The team has even created two cocktails inspired by Madison’s rooftop scene, Rooftop Life and Endless Summer (someone should probably tell them about British weather). The pop-up leads into the World’s 50 Best Bars awards in London on 5th October, where Dante is among the rankings.

What: TT Liquor x Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen Supper Club

Why: Vibrant African cuisine + cocktails from one of Shoreditch’s favourite bars = Af-ric-an good time! Guests will enjoy cocktails and canapés to kick off the evening, before sitting at banqueting tables for four courses showcasing the flavours and spices of Zoe’s Ghanaian cooking. Expect the likes of lamb palaver (lamb stew with creamy ground melon seeds and fresh spinach) with kelewele (spiced plantain), Jollof (fragrant rice) and Red Red (slow-cooked bean stew). But the party doesn’t stop when the meal does – TT Liquor’s atmospheric cellar bar downstairs will serve up drinks from their bar list, alongside music from the resident DJ.

What: Suits & Saree's Dinner

Why: The newly awarded Michelin-star restaurant, Jamavar will be celebrating the Hindu festival of light with a one-off ‘Suits & Saree’s’ dinner. As is tradition, guests will be encouraged to wear their finest clothes, whether that’s a saree, dinner jacket or dress, the restaurant will be dressed with candles and lights to signify the joy and triumph over evil and darkness. The six-course dinner will include Old Delhi butter chicken with fresh tomato and fenugreek; Kachhi Mirch Ka Gosht – kid goat spiced with green peppercorns and yogurt and chilli chikki lava chocolate fondant with cinnamon kulfi and caramelized pecans.

What: Whisky Dinner at Haymarket Hotel

Why: October: love it or hate it, it’s getting autumnal out there. And what better way to beat the chill than with a warming three-course meal, and (even more warming) bourbon whisky? Old Forester is inviting guests to taste their new, limited edition Statesman Whisky, released in conjunction with ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’, while enjoying a menu that echoes its flavours from the hotel’s Head Chef. You can listen to the welcome talk from Old Forester Brand Ambassador Nate Booker (correction: you should listen, don’t be rude) before taking a seat underneath the chandeliers of the Shooting Gallery for three heavenly courses.

What: Hush Presents Truffle Hunting

Why: Despite the venue name, this one is worth shouting about, because this autumn sees the cobbled courtyard at Mayfair restaurant Hush transformed into an enchanted Italian forest as they team up with Amaro Montenegro, the famous Italian spirit that uses 40 botanicals to create its flavour. Guests will be able to relax under the twinkling trees and feast on an array of truffle specials, including truffle scrambled eggs with toasted brioche and truffle and porcini mushrooms with parmesan polenta, alongside Montenegro cocktails from the award-winning bar team and Montenegro brand ambassador Rudi Carraro.

What: Tate Truffle and Mushroom Dinner

Why: A celebration of Autumnal delicacies, the Tate Britain is teaming up with Fred Gillam (aka Fred the Forager), for an evening of the best of Britain’s truffles, mushrooms and cheeses. An exciting one-off event, Fred Gillam will be giving an insight into the delights that can be found in foraging, alongside Paxton and Whitfield, expert cheesemongers who will be talking about great British cheese, including their spectacular Brie stuffed truffles that will be served at the end of the meal. Hosted in the stylish Rex Whistler restaurant, head chef Garrett Keown has sought out the finest UK truffles to give a real taste of Autumn’s richest flavours – plus expertly-matched wines to create a carefully designed experience perfect for London’s foodies.

What: Rioja Wine x Tapas Night

Why: Donostia Social Club – where Brixton meets Basque-inspired drinking and dining – is welcoming Londoner’s to enjoy the UK’s favourite Spanish wines. There will be a hundred choices of Rioja wines, paired with a feast of tapas – salt cod croquetas, octopus Romesco and more. Guests can learn their wine expertise from the best, with a range of experts on hand to talk you through your tastings – including two Masters of Wine. Set in the gorgeous grade II listed Banking Hall, guests can enjoy the chic art deco surroundings on top of the delicious dining and drinking – a learn a little more about appreciating the finer things in life.

What: Talks, Interviews and Masterclasses

Why: Luxury men’s mag, Esquire, is bringing back the Esquire Townhouse in 2017, this time with Dior – for four days of talks, interviews and masterclasses featuring the leaders of film, sport, fashion and food. The Esquire pop-up is an opportunity for guests to master their area of choice, with the best of every industry coming together to talk about what they do – think Cillian Murphy on Peaky Blinders and Charlie Brooker on Black Mirror, Sir Paul Smith on fashion, as well as talks from Russell Brand, Robert Webb, and Chris Galvin. The showcase will take place in Carlton house – the beautiful townhouse in the heart of St. James.

What: Tim Anderson’s Japanese Supper Club

Why: Masterchef winner Tim Anderson will be celebrating the launch of his latest book, JapanEasy, with a specially themed evening with Craft London, the home of world-class collaborations and Greenwich’s urban kitchen garden.  Tim will be presenting both classic and modern Japanese recipes, offering a delicious introduction to regional Japanese cooking using seasonal ingredients in keeping with Craft’s homegrown, sustainable ethos. Not only will guests get a taster of classic snacks like edamame, gyoza and sushi rolls and the chance to try the home-made Umeshu cocktail, but there will also be opportunity to get your own copy of JapanEasy with Tim on hand to sign copies throughout the evening.

What: Diwali On Dalloway Supper Club

Why: A one-off vegetarian supper club will be hosted by Dalloway Terrace featuring Mira Manek, the queen of healthy indian cooking. Celebrating the festival of lights, Diwali, the evening will be paying tribute to both the 70th anniversary of Indian Independence, as well the wonders of authentic Indian cuisine. Diwali on Dalloway will feature Mira’s beautifully created dishes like Rosemary Masala Sweet Potatoes with spiced yoghurt chutney and Chilli Chickpea Tikkis with red pepper, coriander & tamarind chutneys, all in the magical setting of Dalloway Terrace, known as one of London’s most ‘instagrammmable’ restaurants.

What: Christopher’s X Billy and Jack's Supper Club

Why: Christopher’s is joining Masterchef runners up Billy and Jack for an exclusive three day supper club of wholehearted all-American dining. Billy and Jack will be offering guests a feast of US inspired dishes, including spiced venison doughnuts, chicken n’ truffle waffles and a PB n’ J dessert of peanut butter parfait with strawberry and pink peppercorn marshmallow. Riding the success of their sell-out Southbank pop-up, Billy and Jack will be joining Christopher’s Head Chef Francis Agyepong to create the feast, which will be served in Christopher’s Club Room, an art deco space perfect for intimate supper club dining.

What: Pop-Up Wine Tasting from the Vino Beano

Why: We know, we had you at ‘wine tasting’, but read on because it gets better. This event is free for Vino Beano members! What: Wray's Yard Shop

Why: Bringing a taste of Jamaica to Shoreditch, Wray And Nephew White Overproof Rum are taking over Protein Studios with their October pop-up. With DJs, street food, and the launch of Wray and Nephew’s online clothing range, the pop-up will be celebrating the Jamaican culture and Black History month. There will be a chance to preview and purchase items from the new clothes range while you feast on jerk chicken, patties and iconic Wray and Nephew cocktails.

What: Trullo x Dunmaglass Estate Game Feast

Why: Italian restaurant Trullo and its game supplier, Dunmaglass Estate in Scotland, are putting together the feast of dreams for meat eaters. (If you’re a vegetarian, maybe you should do the wine tasting instead…). The Italian cooking style of Trullo will be combined with the distinctive flavours of the different game meats used there, including venison, grouse and partridge, all of which are on the menu. After three carnivorous courses will be something sweet to finish off, but rest assured there is nothing meaty about the upside down pear and almond cake with cinnamon custard.
