It’s jolly boating weather, so how better to celebrate than to swing together to one of these spots serving some of London’s best Eton Mess. Eton College may have given us Boris Johnson, 18 prime ministers, half the last cabinet, the archbishop of Canterbury and our future king, but let’s not hold all that against them, after all they’ve also given us one of the best puddings known to mankind. The dish, full of meringuey, strawberryish goodness is pretty much a national dessert and the perfect summer pudding. So let’s get stuck in…

Aviary

Hit The Roof

The view is undeniably amazing, I mean, seeing a fresh strawberry and elderflower Eton mess, topped with whipped cream and sweet brown sugar meringue close-to is incredible, but the vista across East London ain’t too bad either. Aviary Rooftop may be the best place to marvel at the city, but this dish is even more reason to visit. Maybe try one of their frozen cocktails to boot, like their watermelon Margarita or a smooth passionfruit Martini.

Bread Ahead's Eton Mess Doughnut

Doughnuts But Like, Eton Mess Style!

Just look at that picture. If that doesn’t turn your head then what will, eh? Doughnuts positively oozing with sugary deliciousness arrived at Bread Ahead in Borough Market last month. We’re talking vanilla cream, meringue pieces and fresh English strawberry wrapped up in a fluffy doughnut. Right that’s it, we’re en route…

Roast

Keeping It Classic

The resto might be called Roast, but you’ll be eating quite the opposite of savoury once you lay eyes on the Eton mess offering. Think layers and layers of classic strawberry Eton mess, which can be washed down by glasses and glasses of Champers or Pimms. Sweet tooth still tingling? You can delve into the strawberry and Pimm’s layer cake or baked goods too!

ME London

Mini But Deadly

As rooftops go this has to be one of my favourites, Radio Rooftop at ME London and sure, it’s partly the view but perhaps more than a little down to their Wimbledon themed drink and dessert menu, including (drum roll) Eton mess. In mini form, the Eton mess will accompany a mini strawberry and almond tartlet and a mini mojito ice cream.

The Yacht London

The Yacht has produced yet more dessert offerings that’ll have you all aboard. This summer, things are about to get messy as they introduce their Eton Mess with strawberry sorbet, porridge ice cream with granola, honey and blueberry – yum!

Le Restaurant de PAUL

Lashings!

To Covent Garden and Le Restaurant de PAUL who have thrown together an unmessable Eton mess, with generous layers of everything! With positively ‘lashings’ of cream this might as well be a main course. Served in both Covent Garden and their Broadgate restaurant, it’s mouth wateringly good.
