Your AM routine

Wash your face in ice cold water

Never wash your face in the shower as this causes inflammation and damages your skin barrier. Applying cold temperatures to the skin boosts microcirculation, which is an effective skin firming treatment, it smoothes out wrinkles, tightens pores and restores the skin’s softness, for clarity, and luminosity.

Focus on massage

Use tools such as ice cold cryo balls or a Gua Sha from the freezer, or even two cold spoons as an easy alternative, and stimulate your face in circular motions. This will de-puff from the inside out, reducing inflammation in the area and will drain your lymphatic system.

Never wash your face in the shower as this causes inflammation and damages your skin barrier.

Take time to breathe

Set aside some time to meditate and incorporate 15 minutes of photo biomodulation (low-level red-light therapy) every morning. I recommend Beurer’s Infrared Lamp to relieve any inflammation and promote healing from within.

Swap your morning coffee

Drink milk thistle tea. This has cleansing and detoxifying properties which keeps the skin clear and healthy.

Morning skincare steps

Step 1– Cleanser: For this step, I wouldn’t recommend washing your face unless very oily, I would just splash with cold water and focus on using tools to depuff. However, if cleansing, I would recommend Zo Balancing Cleanser or Medik8 Cleanse Cleanser as these are both super gentle on the skin.

Step 2– Toner. Acqua Di Rose Water by Santa Maria Novella or if you have acne and rosacea use Clinisept+ Anti-Bacterial Spray

Step 3– Eye cream.  Valmont V Firm Eye or Zo Growth Factor Eye Cream, both are very hydrating, and Zo Growth Factor Eye also has a cooling applicator which revives the look of tired eyes, perfect for depuffing the morning.

Step 4– Antioxidant- Vitamin C. SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic or Medik8 C Tetra. Both are very high in ascorbic acid. You need 10-15% minimum for vitamin C to be effective.

Step 5– Hydrator. A must! I’m obsessed with Screen Star by Vico Skin, it’s a brilliant hydrator. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties it’s the chameleon of skincare – it eases redness and its formulation which includes algae is great for congested and acne-prone skin.

Step 6SPF. Dermaceutic K Ceutic SPF 50 or ISDIN –FotoProtector Ultra Age repair are my go-to’s.

Your PM routine

Everything should start with sleep

Avoid staring at all screens to reduce blue light exposure, that includes your phone for at least a few hours before bed as you want your body to begin preparing for a good night’s sleep.

Don’t rush your evening skincare routine

Try a magnesium flake bath once or twice a week

Along with glycine supplements (every evening). Magnesium glycinate eases and relaxes the body and glycine helps to recover the body overnight. Glycine also has the highest role in promoting collagen production while you sleep.

Keep your room temperature on the cold side

Keep your room around 18C and a dark room (blackout curtains if you can). Try and sleep on your back with an elevated head on your pillows as this helps with lymphatic drainage so you don’t wake up puffy in the morning.

Try to do your skincare routine a couple of hours before bed

This way, your products don’t end up on your pillowcase!

Invest in a silk pillowcase

They’re great for retaining more moisture in your skin.

Whatever your age, a bedtime story is always a great way to unwind and destress

I’m currently listening to Mathew McConaughey‘s (Via the Calm App).

Evening skincare steps

Step 1– Cleanse 1. I would recommend ZO Balancing Cleanser (if you have normal to dry skin) or if you’re wearing a lot of make-up, Medik8 Oil Cleanser. Apply to dry skin and spend time working it in before washing off.

Step 2– Cleanse 2. Using lukewarm water, you need to clean the skin, Hydration Cleanser from ZO is great, or Medik8 Surface Radiance Cleanse sweeps off excess dirt.

Step 3– Toner. It’s hard to find a toner that is great for all skin types, but Aqua De Rose Water by Santamaria Novella, Clinisept+ Anti-Bacterial Spray, work with all complexions, especially people with acne and rosacea.

Step 4– Exfoliator. I’m always recommending ZO Complexion Clearing Pads or ZO Exfoliating polish, twice a week (on days not using retinoids).

Step 5– Retinol. If you are a retinoids user (depending on the strength and formulation, use it a few days a week and have a break for a couple of days. I call this Skin Fasting!) try ZO 0.25% Retinal or Medik8Crystal Retinal 1, they are great products to begin your retinol journey, before slowly working your way up to stronger formulations.

Step 6– Hydration. EGF BioEffect (when not using retinol) or again, Screen Star by Vico Skin (wear two layers as a mask overnight and your skin will be incredible come morning).
