8 Stylish Outfits We’re Recreating For Mother’s Day

Whether you’re gathering with your nearest and dearest, tucking into a posh Sunday roast or sipping champagne at Claridge’s, here’s a little Mother’s Day outfit inspo to fit the occasion…
Gone are the days of uptight formal wear to mark special days, making the way for relaxed tailoring, boho-inspired dresses and more statement-worthy clothing – silver trousers, we see you. This, of course, makes Mother’s Day fashion that bit more fun. What you wear also depends on how and where you’ll be spending your Sunday, so rather than just sharing the style suggestions, I’m proposing some activities, too. And when I say activities, I mean eating and drinking fizz. Read on to plan how you’d like to celebrate the mother figure in your life (especially if the mum is you!)
Look 1: Brunch
One of my absolute favourite ways to spend a late morning is tucking into pancakes or avo on toast. Thankfully the London brunch scene has exploded in recent years. From pancakes with hazelnut maple praline and brown butter at Sunday In Brooklyn to Sweet Maria sweetcorn fritters at Milk, the local fave in Balham, the options are endless.
As for what to wear on mother’s day, I looked to the lovely @livpurvis for inspiration. The London-based influencer and writer is the perfect mix of feminine styling and colourful fashion. Her feed features a lot of my go-to labels that offer up instant chic with personality and a hint of Paris, namely Sézane, Rouje and Carel. Is this not the cutest Mother’s Day outfit?
Look 2: Pub Lunch
Who doesn’t love an amble in the countryside followed by a pint and a Scotch egg in a cosy public house? From The Sheene Mill in Cambridgeshire to The White Horse nestled in the Surrey Hills, we’re never far from a good craft ale and a roaring fire. So make like @horty_et_mahaut in chic casuals and must-have Adidas trainers. Again, combining that French touch with a laid-back aesthetic, I’m here for this possible Mother’s Day outfit.
Look 3: Fancy Sunday Roast
Fitzrovia’s Berners Tavern by Jason Atherton is a must-visit for any roast lover, while The Northall set in the opulent Corinthia Hotel is a winner if you’re after luxury. Mum @annabelrosendahl would fit right in at either venue wearing this elegant, yet comfortable combo. Plus, this season we’re all over those pops of red, especially when paired with a simple jumper dress with plenty of room for a growing belly.
Look 4: Afternoon Tea
Surely this is the ultimate Mother’s Day treat? A decadent opportunity to dress up and indulge in oodles of cake, sandwiches and scones, while sipping on various sweet infusions. The Ritz is the classic, but perhaps you could try a catwalk-inspired Haute Couture Afternoon Tea at The Franklin London or The Lanesborough‘s offering inspired by Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Created in partnership with Netflix and Shondaland, the limited-edition menu pays homage to the Regency era with a little Gin Punch on the side. With this in mind, I think dressing in top-to-toe colour is a must, especially when it’s the perfect pastel macaroon shade as worn by @aimeessong.
Look 5: Mooching Around Galleries
For those looking for a little culture or an alternative to keep active little ones entertained, this country has a wealth of museums, galleries and exhibitions, from the high brow to the more quirky. Sometimes it’s easy to forget what we have on our doorstep, so why not use Mother’s Day as an excuse to throw on a pretty dress and get out there. Take Sarah Clark, Founder & Editor of @douceur.uk, as an example. Having created an online treasure trove of beautiful things for all the family, she knows all about effortless style.
Look 6: Family Gathering
This is the keep-everyone-happy type of outfit – including yourself. When meeting up with in-laws, parents or distant relatives, you want something that feels beautiful, yet gives off timeless vibes. In the shot below, the stunning @francesaaternir is captured with her family by photographer @ryanbrabazon for the latest Rouje campaign for @jeannedamas wearing the perfect Sunday dress.
Look 7: Let’s Bowl
Fancy doing something completely different for a bit of fun on the big day? Then how about hitting the bowling alleys? Honestly, it makes for a great day out for all the family, plus it means you can forego the heels and keep things a bit relaxed. Embrace the silver trousers like the gorgeous @keely_busby or slip on my current faves, the leopard print trousers.
Look 8: Bedtime Cuddles
Finally, nothing beats a good snuggle in your comfies. Maybe your life is chaotic enough and your gift to yourself is to stay put: breakfast in bed, Netflix on the sofa, pyjama party with the littles. All heaven. You could even go for the whole mini-me look and opt for matching nightwear like @joannalarie and her tot. These nighties from If Only If are made from softest GOTS-certified, organic medium weight cotton voile, so breathable and truly luxurious.
