British politics always seems to be full of drama and madness, but what’s life really like inside the famous No. 10 Downing Street? That’s what Steven Moffat’s new Channel 4 dramaedy series Number 10 aims to explore, as it tells a (fictionalised) story of prime ministerial life. Starring Rafe Spall, Jenna Coleman and Katherine Kelly, it feels particularly timely as we approach a new prime minister taking charge in real life- here’s everything we know so far.

What is Number 10 about?

Number 10 takes place almost entirely inside the building we all know as the Prime Minister’s official residence and workplace, but rather than focusing purely on standard party politics and arguing, the series shines a light on the people who keep the country running behind the scenes. Head writer Moffat has described it as a workplace comedy set in “the most ridiculous workplace”, which, like The Thick of It and Yes Minister before it, focuses on a fictionalised version of the British government, trying to navigate the issues of the day.

Trying actor Rafe Spall plays the PM himself, Harry Douglas, who like every world leader, has to try and navigate everything from international incidents to political scandals, while Katherine Kelly plays his formidable Chief of Staff- tasked with keeping everything in the office running properly. Moffat-era Doctor Who star, Jenna Coleman, meanwhile, is the ambitious Deputy Chief of Staff, Katie Flynn, who has aspirations for higher power.

According to the official synopsis, Number 10 offers an imagined glimpse into Downing Street, and the building is home to “a Prime Minister in the attic, a coffee bar in the basement, and a wallpapered labyrinth of romance, crisis and heartbreak in-between”.

While its comedic elements are apparent, Number 10 also mixes in drama and stakes. It both spoofs and analyses the frantic and often absurd environment of Whitehall, where headstrong advisers compete for influence, office staff race to solve impossible problems- even a minor mistake has the potential to become a national crisis for Douglas and his team.

Is there a trailer?

A full trailer has yet to be released for the upcoming dramaedy, though Channel 4 has unveiled a collection of first-look images we do have a few first look images Spall and Coleman in character as just two of the occupants of No. 10. Given his work on Sherlock, Dracula and his often thrilling Doctor Who stories, Moffat is sure to bring an intensity to the world of political drama that we can’t wait to see play out.

Who else stars?

Alongside Spall, Coleman and Kelly, the ensemble cast includes Laura Haddock, Richard Rankin, Joe Wilkinson, and Jing Lusi. Ben Palmer directs all six episodes.

UK release date

Channel 4 has yet to announce an official premiere date, but Number 10 is expected to arrive later in 2026.
