All We Know About The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6

After 8 years and six seasons, The Handmaid’s Tale is coming to an end this year as its final episodes are set to air. Elisabeth Moss will reprise her role as June Offred for one last time- and June is determined to face down and destroy the tyrannical Gilead for good.
Meanwhile, Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) will join the resistance to protect their futures. As the series comes hurtling to its conclusion, here’s everything we know about the final season.
What is The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 about?
The end of season 5 (which aired back in 2022) saw June in Canada, after being split from her husband Luke in an attempt to escape the country with their daughter. June may have secured her freedom, but with Luke remaining captured and Gilead still a totalitarian force, she still has a lot of work ahead of her. In season 6, Luke will eventually escape and end up joining the resistance alongside Moira, and there are plenty of other threads that need wrapping up. Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), who has long been in conflict with June, will also appear in season 6, having already crossed paths with our main character at the end of Season 5. Will the two women resolve their differences?

There’s also the question of Nick (Max Minghella), June’s lover and the father of their child Nichole, whose future was left somewhat up in the air after physically assaulting Commander Lawrence. But central to all of June’s problems is the coming uprising to finally take down Gilead forever, as the red-robed Handmaids await the start of the revolution. As June alludes to in season 6’s official trailer, red was chosen for the Handmaid uniforms to symbolise blood and oppression. But “it’s also the colour of rage”, and the handmaids of Gilead will exploit that as they form an army of rebels. There’s a lot to be achieved, and only 10 episodes to do it in – so expect an exhilarating final season.
What else do we know, and when can I watch?
The Handmaid’s Tale may be coming to an end this year, but Hulu and the show’s creators have announced that The Testaments, the follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale, will be adapted into a TV series in the near future, serving as a sequel. While Season 6’s release date has been announced for 8th April on Hulu, its UK air date, on Channel 4 and Amazon Prime, hasn’t been confirmed.
