Sigourney Weaver might be best known for her roles in sci-fi films like Alien and Avatar, but she’s playing a decidedly different character in Amazon’s intriguing new miniseries from the producers of Big Little Lies. Titled The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Weaver stars as the grandmother of a young girl who moves in with her after being orphaned and follows their life on a flower farm.

What’s it about?
Alice Hart (Fear The Walking Dead and The 100’s Alycia Debhnam-Carey) is a girl who’s been living a secluded life on the coast with her mother and father. Her mother tries to protect and lookout for her, as both struggle with the difficult and dark temperament of her father. One of the things in life that keeps her happy is flowers and hidden messages that her mother gives to her- but all of this is thrown away when tragedy strikes and Alice is orphaned at age of nine.
Alice is taken to live with her grandmother June (Weaver), who she had never met or heard of before, on a flower farm. The farm serves as a refuge for women who are “lost or broken”, and Alice, struggling to overcome her grief and adapt to her new life, finds solace in flowers.
As the years pass, Alice begins to change and develop in her relationship with her grandmother and discovers that her family has been hiding even more secrets from her all of her life. As she deals with a shocking betrayal and her family’s past, she discovers that things are not all as they seem. The comfort and therapy she finds in her love of flowers start to crumble, and she’s forced to reckon with events and find inner strength within herself. A younger actress (newcomer Ayla Browne) will play the younger Alice, but the majority of the miniseries will focus on our heroine as young adult.

In the explosive first teaser trailer, we see a rage-filled Alice smash up something on a table as a voice message left by what seems to be her grandmother, before a quick montage of clips from both her childhood and present. It seems June has not been entirely honest with her, even if she is trying to protect her.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart is set to also star Asher Keddie (Nine Perfect Strangers), Leah Purcell (The Twelve), Frankie Adams (The Expanse) and Alexander England (Little Monsters).
When will it be released?
The series is set to debut on Amazon Prime on 4th August 2023.
