The Portokalos Are Back For My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3

It’s time to catch up with the Portokalos family: over 20 years after the classic romcom debuted in cinemas, My Big Fat Greek Wedding is getting a third outing on the big screen! Here’s everything we know so far about My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3… 

It’s been in the works for a while, with Nia Vardalos hinting that she had ideas for more Big Fat Greek fun, and now the film has its very first trailer. This time around, Toula and co are heading back to Greece for a reunion, as she visits her late father’s childhood village.

Nia Vardolous and John Corbett are both set to reprise their roles as Toula and Ian, and the film is dedicated to the memory of Michael Constantine, who played Toula’s father Gus and sadly died in 2021. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 takes place sometime after Gus’ offscreen death, with Toula deciding its time to visit the village where he grew up in order to get back in touch with her family roots.

Of course, she’s not going alone- the rest of the Portokalos-Miller family are tagging along for the ride. “A lot has happened since my big fat Greek wedding…” Toula recounts at the start of the recently released trailer: “My father passed away, and his last wish was for us to revisit his childhood village and reconnect with our roots.” Cue a hectic montage of the family hopping on a plane and flying out to the Mediterranean.

On landing, Toula meets a distant and eccentric cousin and asks where to find her father’s friends- though it seems the answer is more complicated than she hoped. His friends will come to the family reunion, but Toula’s cousin doesn’t actually know where they are specifically. After they all spend a night sleeping next to each other (“There’s no other rooms!”), and having an unexpected encounter with a goat, the family begins their search for Gus’ long-lost friends.

As they navigate the country and get used to the various local customs, the Portokalos family become even closer than ever: “You got us back to Greece, you’re the head of the family now” Nick (Louis Mandylor) tells Toula.

You won’t have long to wait for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, as the film is slated to arrive in cinemas on 8th September, before releasing on streaming. In the meantime, you can see John Corbett reprise another romantic comedy role as Aidan Shaw in the second season of And Just Like That… when it premieres in June.
