Robert De Niro And Angela Bassett Lead The Cast Of Netflix’s Zero Day

We’re always on the lookout for exciting new thrillers on Netflix, and this year’s Zero Day, which releases next month, certainly looks to fit the bill.
Starring Hollywood legend Robert De Niro, Oscar-nominated Black Panther star Angela Bassett and Fleishman Is In Trouble’s Lizzy Caplan, it follows what happens when a sudden and devastating cyberattack occurs. Leading to global chaos and a high casualty rate, the attack sends response teams scrambling to contain it, and what follows threatens to upend the US government. Here’s all you need to know:
What is Zero Day about?
You’ve probably heard about cyber attacks and tech warfare in the news, and Netflix’s series imagines what the worst-case scenario would be, taking place after a particularly devastating cyber event. Several thousand people are killed in what becomes known in the show as “Zero Day”, when infrastructure connected to the internet is hacked, causing planes to crash and trains to derail, and more. As an emergency is declared and an investigation and response is rolled out in the US, former President George Mullen (De Niro), who remains popular and respected, is contacted to lend his advice and experience in order to uncover the crime. But he fears that the rush to lead a response could lead to people’s freedoms being forfeited.

While Mullen is intent on resolving the incident thoroughly and guiding the country back on track, it’s no easy task, with paranoia and misinformation running rampant across America and the globe. Working closely with the sitting US President, Evelyn Mitchell (played by Bassett), he will find that there are more people looking to create havoc and bring down the government than he could have realised, as a web of lies and conspiracy reveals enemies within. Also in his circle are his daughter Alexandra (Caplan), also a politician though determined to be out of his shadow, his fixer and former aide Roger Carlson (Killers of the Flower Moon star Jesse Plemons) and political operative Valerie Whitesell (The White Lotus’ Connie Britton).
What else do we know, and is there a release date?
The six-part series is set to debut on Netflix next month on 20th February. Other cast members include Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), Joan Allen (Room), Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit), Dan Stevens (Gaslit) and Clark Gregg (Painkiller).
