If you’re lucky enough to own a grand mantel, then this is the time to bring it to life. Keep it minimal in true Skandi style or maximise the opulence with ribbons and garlands, candles and wreaths. The options are endless and magical.

As the festive countdown continues, lean into your creativity and bring a touch of sparkle to your living room. Think of your fireplace as the room’s centrepiece or an extension to your tree; show off your personal style. And if you don’t have a mantelpiece, fear not, all of these suggestions can be adapted to spruce up your sideboard or shelves.

Drama is key, but this doesn’t have to mean over the top. Look to Soho Home for rich inspiration and opt for one extravagant garland or flower arrangement. Drape pines, evergreens and eucalyptus together and weave in fairy lights to add warmth and texture. Nicki Bamford-Bowes, Interior Designer and Stylist, is top of her mantel game. She uses a mix of real and faux foliage, giant bows and baubles in accent shades to complement her decor and create the most incredible insta-worthy interiors.

CHRISTMAS AT SOHO HOME

Scrolling social media, it’s very clear that traditions are trending. With the whole country clinging to joy, we’re seeing plenty of childhood decorations. We’re talking paper chains, stars and stockings: all giving that comforting homemade feel. Selfridges has brought back nutcrackers and Liberty London is currently showcasing ‘50s-style felt garlands and snow globes.

Jewel tones are also turning up the cheer, while reds, greens and golds remain the go-to colour palette. However, natural elements and woodland creatures have really inspired designers this year. Miniature deers, owls and mushrooms, available at John Lewis, will all soon be part of our mantelscape alongside fir cones, berries and dried oranges.

Now all you need to do is light up those winter candles, throw a log on the fire and settle into a night of mulled wine and your favourite Christmas movies…
