As the weather changes, so do our tastes – gone are Aperol Spritz‘s and light tuna tostadas, hello to roast dinners, indulgent desserts and seasonal produce like squash and truffle. London’s best restaurants are changing their menus as quickly as the colour of the leaves, and we’ve rounded up some of the best dishes in the city for you to enjoy.

Curried monkfish tail

Under the direction of celebrated Michelin-starred chef, Lisa Goodwin-Allen, The Game Bird is inspired by great seasonal, British produce and the bustle of historic St James’s. Together, Lisa and Executive Chef Jozef Rogulski have created a menu overflowing with a combination of familiar favourites and delicious surprises.

This monkfish dish uses one of the most unique fish in a new and delicious way, paired with a curried sauce with garlic and coriander.

Braised lamb shank

This dish from Sanderson Hotel is a rich and hearty main course, featuring tender lamb slow-cooked until it’s fall-off-the-bone soft. It’s served alongside truffle mash potato, a creamy, buttery mash that’s elevated with the earthy, aromatic essence of truffles, adding luxurious depth to the dish.

To complement the richness, the plate includes cavolo nero, a type of Tuscan kale, which balances the flavours. Finally, the dish is drizzled with rosemary jus, a fragrant, rich sauce made from the lamb’s natural juices and infused with rosemary for a woody, aromatic finish. The combination of these components creates a gourmet experience, perfect for a cosy, indulgent meal in Fitzrovia.

Bread and butter pudding

Story Cellar is inspired by the restaurants of Paris, combined with Tom Sellar’s signature flair and a distinct London identity, serving classic dishes with a focus on premium rotisserie chicken, accompanied by a list of exceptional, rare wines – and some exceptional desserts, like this bread and butter pudding.

The kitchen is led by Rob Homer (previously of Dovetale, Alfred’s, Hotel Café Royal) who was the mastermind behind this dish – it comes with a stunning orange-infused vanilla custard, adding an extra dimension to this famous dessert.
