If you loved last year’s hit drama The Tourist, then you’ll be excited to hear that its creators are hard at work on a new thriller series, Boat Story, for the BBC. There are already a few BBC projects we can’t wait for like the intense Nightsleeper, the second series of prison drama Time and Ruth Wilson’s new series The Woman in the Wall, and Boat Story is another we’re putting on the watchlist. It sees two struggling strangers who find themselves stumbling upon a lucrative drug stash- and things start to go wrong when they decide to sell it.

Here’s Everything We Know About Boat Story

Daisy Haggard, best known for her comedy roles in Uncle, Episodes and Breeders, stars as Janet, and opposite her is Vigil star Paterson Joesph as Samuel. Neither person is in a good situation: both are hard up, low on cash and have little to lose. After a chance meeting, the pair suddenly discover a shipwrecked boat washed up on a shore, and upon investigating come upon an unbelievable find: a perfectly preserved stash of cocaine. They could of course turn it over to the authorities and forget all about it, but the allure of a potential get-rich-quick scheme is too hard to resist. They both agree to sell the contraband and split the cash equally. But of course, a large stash of cocaine doesn’t tend to go unnoticed.

As Boat Story unfolds, their decision leads to serious unintended consequences, and the pair are soon entangled in a terrifying chase with not only the police but a team of hitmen, gang members and a ruthless criminal named “The Tailor” (Tchéky Karyo). With their fate hanging in the balance, the pair must make some more tough decisions as they fight to survive with their freedom and lives.

Sibling writer duo Harry and Jack Williams, who also created BBC shows The Missing and Baptiste said that “We loved making The Tourist and Boat Story picks up where that left off – tonally at least… … it’s [a thriller] full of vulnerable, messed up and eccentric characters and we’ve cast some of our favourite actors to play them.” Like that series, Boat Story will consist of six hour-long episodes and is currently filming. There’s currently no release date yet from the BBC, but it will likely arrive on our screens at the end of the year.

boat story’s release date is tbc – we’ll update once we have more information
