“I’m A Style Editor & These Are The Small British Brands I’m Shopping This Christmas”

With the big day looming, hitting the high street can feel like a daunting task. So pour yourself a cuppa, sit back and let us introduce you to some of our fave independent British brands online. From luxe knitwear and jewellery to kids’ pyjamas and timeless luggage for the man in your life, it’s all here.
Yes, Amazon and the like save us from those last-minute panics, but what a joy to find something handmade or locally sourced. For instance, it’s hard to beat the unique quality of both British and Irish knitwear. & Daughter is a testament to that. The British knitwear brand, founded by Buffy Reid, works with five different makers from the borders of Scotland and the West Coast of Donegal. They make each piece using the traditional knitting technique called ‘fully fashioning’, meaning each jumper segment is knit individually, then linked and finished by hand. As a result, you’re essentially receiving a work of art. What could be more personal and long-lasting than that?
Small brands and creators offer something unique and truly special.
Speaking of art, numerous UK-based artists are creating the most beautiful works guaranteed to impress. One of my faves is Amy Gardner, a London-based multi-media artist best known for her bold use of colour, inspiring images and celebration of womanhood. Below, you’ll see her Sister Fire piece, which I have my eye on for my own sister.
If you’re after something for the home, then look to TBCo. A B Corp-certified brand making statement-worthy fashion and homeware accessories. Founded in 2014 by Emma Macdonald, it focuses on using natural and recycled fibres to create everything from duvet covers and cushions to Christmas stockings, scarves and pyjamas. Speaking of PJs, for the kids, pop Nights By Wilder to the top of your list – just beautiful.
So, feel smug that you get to avoid the crowds, support small businesses and discover the best of British and Irish. Not a bad way to sort your Christmas shopping. Now pass the mince pies…

It’s no secret that I love Queens Of Archive. Launched in 2020, founders Nicola and Sarah pay homage to the Queens of yesteryear who paved the way for us all. Their dresses are show-stopping pieces, individual, limited, tell a story and embody the Queens who wear them. This season’s Café De Flore collection is inspired by the magnetic allure of Andy
Warhols muses. The Karina mini dress captures the spirit of ’60s femininity.

Queens of archive, Karina, £285
For the glam and the decadent, you have to check out House of Hackney, renowned for its inspired, rock’n’roll homewares. Or Kirstie Le Marque and Rachel Jackson for unique, treasured jewellery. All from the UK, all utterly gorgeous.
When it comes to men, these days it feels like there’s a wealth more to choose from. For the ultimate investment piece, look to Bennett Winch. The British-made luxury luggage company is a must for the sartorial gentleman. It’s even been featured in a James Bond film. In No Time To Die, James Bond’s Tom Ford Tuxedo is presented to him in a Bennett Winch S.C. Holdall Suit Carrier – perhaps you know a Bond wannabe?
Bennett Winch, Suede S.C Holdall, £1650
Every Bennett Winch product is handmade in England. Using traditional skills and materials, they engineer accessories tailored to a contemporary world. Their products are designed for the discerning minimalists; those who shed all surplus in pursuit of true quality.
Premium knitwear will always be paramount for Navygrey. The British label is known for its jumpers, but its accessories are just as soft, luxurious and covetable. Made in the borders of Scotland in Hawick, with the softest Scottish-spun wool and crafted by knitters with a lifetime’s experience – you’re buying into heirloom fashion.

Navygrey, The Border Cable Hat, £90
West Sussex born, Piglet In Bed, is my go-to for bedlinen. For Christmas, the British brand has once again launched its sell-out stockings. Crafted from their signature linen blend fabrics, these quilted stockings have plenty of room for small gifts and treats for everyone on the nice list!

Piglet In Bed. Christmas Stocking, £49
