From Brown Wall Paint To Grounding Soft Furnishings, Is This 2024’s Most Unlikely Interiors Trend?
From chocolate nails to the new rich and indulgent fashion palette, the colour brown is everywhere right now. Trickling into the interiors landscape too, we take a look at 2024’s most unlikely interiors trend and why it might just be the ticket for a calm, grounded and unexpectedly chic home aesthetic.
Whilst ‘Peach Fuzz’ might be PANTONE‘s shade of choice for 2024, there is no denying brown is everywhere right now. From our wardrobes to our nails to our ’90s-inspired makeup, we’re fully embracing our brown era.
Previously thought of as dull, murky and a bit old fashioned, brown can actually be really warm and cocooning in the home. That’s partly down to the fact that it’s such a prominent colour in nature, it can feel really grounding and nurturing, as well as working pretty much with every other shade.
If you’re looking for a modern approach, we love a pop of brown colour with an otherwise neutral, bright and light room. Case in point, this indulgent chocolate brown modular sofa against white wash walls and sun-drenched transparent voiles, which gives a space a laid back and bohemian LA vibe.
Equally, keep shades rustic and muted and brown can take on a really retro-inspired feel. We love it with warm ochres, soothing sage greens and punchy mustards for a 1970s-inspired deco.
Due to browns grounding feel, it also means it works really well as a base to so many fabrics and textures. Natural woods, whether that’s a reclaimed floor or a mid-century side table can be mixed with hot chocolate-hued mohair throws or artisanl ceramics, for a layered and established look.
If you’re looking to dip your toe in the trend, start with accessories. We love H&M fuzzy mohair blanket to bring new life to a tired sofa or IKEA’s brown ridged tumblers to bring a retro feel to your tablescape. Similarly, Addison Ross’ faux toirtoishell tray proves that brown is anything but boring and would make an ideal gift for someone who loves to host.
Bigger ticket items work really well in this shade too. Top of our wish list is one of Soho Home’s velvet sofas in rich chocolate. Let it take centre stage of the space and dress with an abundance of textures and other muted shades, from caramel to rust, cream to mink brown, for a look that feels straight out of Mad Men.
