Andrew Lincoln And Indira Varma Star In New Thriller, Coldwater

Actor Andrew Lincoln is known around the world as the rugged Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead– but he’s returning to British TV for the first time in years for the new drama series Coldwater. He’s starring alongside Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Eve Myles (Torchwood) and Ewen Bremner (T2 Trainspotting) in a thrilling tale set in rural Scotland.
When an unhappy middle-aged man arrives in a small Scottish village, he meets an enigmatic neighbour (Bremner) who seems to be hiding dark secrets. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is Coldwater about?
We all know the feeling of growing older and time passing by, and for John (played by Lincoln), it suddenly hits him hard when he stops and realises he’s now middle-aged and unhappy. He may have a family, with a child he cares for as a stay-at-home dad, but he’s quietly resentful of where he’s ended up in life, and would like nothing more than to break out of it. This is where we meet him in Coldwater, as he represses his thoughts and emotions, day in, day out. When a violent incident occurs in the school playground, which he tries and fails to successfully intervene in and break up, he finds himself at breaking point. Now, in a full-blown identity crisis, he gets back home and tells his family to pack their bags to move house.

His wife, Fiona, is played by Varma, and the two head up to Scotland, far from the bustle of London. Shortly after arriving, John meets and befriends his next-door neighbour, Tommy (Bremner), who runs an all-male book group. John quickly finds himself fascinated and enraptured by John, despite the fact that there’s an odd air of mystery about him, and he may not be all he seems. Fiona, however, is unconvinced, suspicious of Tommy, and tells John to stay away from him. But John can’t keep himself away- and when an eruption of anger ends with John in Tommy’s debt, things suddenly start getting bad. As he falls further under Tommy’s influence, he wonders if he’s beginning to lose control.
ITV’s series is set to be six episodes long and is currently in production. There’s no definite release date yet, but it’s likely to air in the near future- stay tuned for more updates soon.
