Ah, the luxury of eating out… no washing up, no awkward meal-preps for judgy pals and no food poisoning (or so we hope). It’s a fine old way to while away any evening, and London bulges with sexy supper clubs each month. Of course, what with this being a city that loves to inject a bit of weird and whacky into, well, everything, the supper clubs have most definitely followed suit. So, expect a murder on a train, a psychologist helping a chef prepare your meal and, along the way, some flippin’ delicious food.
Here are our favourite August supper clubs…
If there was one persons grill we would want to get up in, it would be Jimmy Garcia, the king of the BBQ! The picnic pop-up with a meaty twist is currently underway at London’s Southbank Centre. The BBQ club returns to its roots for its 5th year with an alfresco dining terrace for 30 and, if you haven’t thrown a shrimp on any barbie anywhere yet, then now’s your chance. The feast is six-course heavy, and drifts between DIY whiskey-smoked trout to pineapple and coconut pannacotta.
When? Monday 12th August
Squeeze in that last summer barbie whilst you can and head to Ace Hotel, who’ve teamed up with Pit Magazine this month. Their delectable BBQ-based offering sees an eclectic menu plated up by a line-up of female chefs, with moriesh munches on offer for the meat lovers and the meat-free. On the 18th of August, Mary San Pablo of Luto will be your resident chef; the brains behind the glorious Filipino inspired supper club. Don’t miss her unrivalled, original menu.
When? Sunday 18th August
If you can’t quite make it to the Italian Riviera this summer – ugh – then how about the next best thing? Traverse the rambunctious regions of Italy via O’ndina Gin as Palatino throws a sumptuous summer supper club paved with booze, bites and a banter-filled atmosphere. The culinary affair boasts two exclusive large table dinners, on the 14th of August and 4th of September, where fare such as bream carpaccio, orange, marjoram and chilli can be enjoyed, followed by mains of grilled sea bream fillet and aubergine parmigiana. Each deletable dish partners with a heady O’ndina gin mix, including a perfect Italian Negroni, or O’ndina gin basil mojito.

Sauce Supper Club is renowned for its epic eats and famous faces. Their next August event takes place on the 19th and welcomes MasterChef: The Professionals 2018 winner Laurence Henry along with fellow finalists Oli Martin and Matthew Ryle. We can already tell we’ll be patting our bellies post feast with these culinary God’s at the helm. The fiery, temptatious shenanigans will take place at the National Theatre’s House Restaurant where a seasonal menu, bulging at the seams, will be enjoyed in all of its six-course glory. You can also add on a wine flight.
When? Monday 19th August
Dulwich Picture Gallery is the location for this next Supperclub, a frenzy of fine fare and good vibes. Fat Macy’s is the name of the event, which takes place monthly and, after a rest in June and July, the Supperclub returneth by a company that trains and supports young Londoners living in temporary accommodation. What’s more, the awesomely ethical club pumps out some of the best vegetarian food going and, this month, it’ll made by trainees using bountiful British ingredients.
When? Thursday 22nd August
Films and food – the recipe for an epic Sunday recovering from the night before. But, how about taking it from the cinema, or indeed your sofa, and experiencing your favourite films through food? Meals On Reels does just what it says on the metaphorical tin, inviting guests to indulge in their favourite flicks through the use of taste. It’s an American-style food-filled screening with tater tots galore and we’re sure you’ll love it.
When? Friday 23rd August
The Skip Garden Kitchen triumphs a highly veg-centric menu, making a real song and dance about seasonal ingredients. The awesome super club will see you traversing the tube to North London, where you’ll find fresh-picked produce and the best flavours of the season, including ferments, homemade butters, home brews, sourdough and ancient cookery methods. It’s time to party, turnip the beet…
When? Saturday 24th August
This supper club delves into the logic behind the food on our plates as guests experience what happens when a psychologist and chef meet. With immersion at the helm, this outlandish experience delves into how aroma, colour, texture and sound influences how we experience flavour. So, if you’re someone who is petty lacklustre on the food science front then perhaps its time to brush up on your sensual food knowledge and join The Kitchen Theory Chef’s Table. Hosted by Experimental Chef Jozef Youssef and the Michelin trained Kitchen Theory chefs, this ‘gastrophysical’ journey is set to be a tasty one…

Willing attendees to board an elegant dining car on The Murdér Express this supper club is quite the immersive experience! Ever wanted to turn back the clock? Now’s your chance, as you whirlwind across to the 1930s Doctor Who style and plummet into a luxury train carriage where Laurence Henry, MasterChef: The Professionals 2018 champion, will be making things hot, hot, hot in the kitchen department. Yes, The Murdér Express: Jewel of the Empire experience is quite the head turner, as the train begins to turn into something akin to a Hercule Poirot novel. Murder to one side however… there’s some fantastic food to be enjoyed too!
