The creamy froth, the prized layer of foam that resides on the inside of the lid, the sweet, condensed goodness at the end of the cup. Lets’ face it, milkshakes really are the business but (clue’s in the name) they’re not usually ideal for vegans. But don’t worry, vegans out there, there’s no need to give up this heavenly treat! London has a host of vegan-friendly places serving heavenly milkshakes.
If you’re looking for vegan and cruelty free milkshakes, look no further. Yorica is vegan society registered, and everything on the menu is vegan and cruelty free. There are a few milkshake flavours to choose from: chocolate, caramel, mocha, mango and raspberry, and they’re all blended with rice milk. If you’ve got an allergy, this place should prove to be a breath of fresh air, too. Yorica is accredited by allergy UK, with all staff trained as part of the Allergy Aware Scheme.
What do you call a shake that’s a bit on the freaky side? A freakshake, of course! The freakshakes at the canvas café are very fancy milkshakes. They’re pretty indulgent, rich, vegan and rather extravagant. Think of a large glass jug overflowing with ice cream, sauce, cake and toppings with a couple of straws stuck in. There are three flavours available: chocolate and hazelnut, raspberry, and a special flavour which changes according to the season. They are pretty large, so we recommend bringing a friend along to share it with you.
The Vurger Co. has a 100 percent vegan fast food menu. They have a range of super tasty and adventurous milkshakes. From salted caramel popcorn to Oreo, there’s a flavour to suit every sweet tooth. You can even spend a little extra to get a shot of whisky or rum in your shake, which sounds just up our street!
If you’re a fan of brownies or cookies, then these vegan milkshakes should go down a treat. The unique milkshakes are made up a mixture of vegan and gluten free ice cream and milk. Brownies and cookies are then blended into the mixture, which can be topped off with sauce or fresh fruit. There are a range of shakes, all with rather groovy names. Our favourites are the Tofoofoo shake (made with hot toffee sauce), and the Shirelle Scream shake (made with fresh fruit of the day).
Fan of the odd Pina colada? Then you’ll probably enjoy the coconut ripple vegan milkshake at The Diner. The flavour resembles the alcoholic favourite, but you have the option of adding Oreos, peanut butter, a shot of coffee or house liquor. The Diner even has a whole menu for vegans, so it’s super.
