Louis Theroux fans, listen up: the much-loved documentary maker is back with his latest BBC docuseries which sees him interview six figures from around the world.

Louis Theroux Interviews… is more grounded and less chaotic than some of his more famous documentaries, featuring mostly celebrities- this time including Anthony Joshua and Joan Collins. He prods them in his inimitable way about their lives and achievements, allowing them to let their guard down like no one else can.

What is Louis Theroux Interviews… about?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll know who Louis Theroux is and what he’s about: bespectacled, calm, dryly humorous and consistently memeable, everyone’s favourite documentarian (not naming David Attenborough) always makes for good viewing.

Rather than wading into odd American subcultures or meeting quirky celebrities, the Interviews series is a bit more reflective and a bit more down to earth. The first series which aired early last year saw him chat to the likes of Judi Dench, Katherine Ryan, Rita Ora, Stormzy and Bear Grylls.

Series 2’s first episode is an interview with heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua about his life and career so far, discussing everything from his upbringing to his wins as a world-class boxer. Revealing details like how he once got into a fight with six other men on the street, the two touch on whether Joshua still feels the boxing thrill after being in the limelight.

Who else is interviewed?

Beyond the first episode, who else does Louis peel back the layers of? Further guests include The Libertines co-frontman Pete Doherty, who’s asked about his new direction in life and living away from press attention and drug addiction.

Then there’s Joan Collins, the Hollywood legend and star of Dynasty, The Cartier Affair and Seven Thieves, whom Louis meets in the French Rivera. They chat about the ups and downs of her career and experiences in an often-exploitative industry, as well as her status as one of the last stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

The other interviews the BBC has confirmed are in the pipeline are musician Raye, Top Boy and Bulletproof actor Ashley Walters, and the American activist and whistle-blower Chelsea Manning.

The first episode of the series with Anthony Joshua aired last Tuesday and it’ll continue weekly. You can watch the trailer below.
