“I’m A TV Writer & Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed Needs To Be On Your Radar”

Apple TV has been making some great thriller series recently, and it’s keeping up that trend with its new billing, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. A mix of tense drama and darkly comedic writing, it follows a recently divorced mother who becomes sucked into a dangerous world of blackmail and murder after she becomes convinced she witnessed a crime. Starring She-Hulk and Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany, it’s set to arrive on streaming next month- here’s all you need to know:
What is Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed about?
Maslany plays Paula, a mother and divorcée, who already has a lot on her plate as it is: she’s going through a difficult custody battle with her now ex-husband Karl (played by Jake Johnson), and is also uncertain about the future of her job. It’s at this point in her life that she meets and connects with Trevor, an online camboy, who seems like a welcome escape from her troubles- at least at first. It’s soon apparent, however, that Trevor is trying to scam Paula and won’t go quietly. Things begin to get even more tense when Paula is certain she witnesses Trevor killing someone, and that she might be able to assist in bringing him to justice.

A police investigation into the death is opened, led by two detectives: Gonzalez (Dolly de Leon) and Baxter (Jon Michael Hill). Paula decides to investigate and put the pieces together in her own way, but the authorities don’t trust her and aren’t convinced that she’s not concealing secrets of her own. She’s going through a lot, but is she really everything she claims to be? Our main character doesn’t seem entirely sure herself, and Apple teases in their official synopsis that Paula’s going through something of an identity crisis. It’s hard to know what the truth is, but Paula is determined to unravel a growing conspiracy and rebuild her family- and sense of self.
What else do we know?
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is meanwhile also set to star The White Lotus and The Last of Us’ Murray Bartlett, alongside A Man in Full star Jon Michael Hill. Apple has released a short teaser trailer, introducing us briefly to Paula, but it certainly leaves a lot more questions than answers. The show itself will arrive with its first two episodes on Apple TV on 20th May, and then continue weekly.
