If you’re looking to get out of the heat (or you’re just keen to catch the latest films at the cinema), you’re in luck that June is a particularly exciting month for movies. Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor star in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, while Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant play pompous aristocrats in period comedy Savage House, to name a few. Here’s everything you need to see in June:

Disclosure Day

Master director Steven Spielberg returns to the big screen with his latest film, the sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day. Starring the likes of Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth and Colman Domingo, it centers on the question of what happens when alien life is discovered on earth. The plot has mostly been kept under wraps to keep things mysterious, but we do know O’Connor’s character Daniel is one of those intent on uncovering the truth about extraterrestrial beings, while meteorologist Margaret (Blunt) has apparently been put under mind control. Corporate businessman Noah Scranton (Firth) meanwhile, has vested interests in stopping Daniel’s whistleblowing.

Savage House

A period comedy starring both Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant wearing some very elaborate costumes- what’s not to like? Savage House, also arriving in cinemas this month, gives big The Favourite vibes and is set in 18th-century England, exploring the upper classes and landed gentry. Grant plays the extravagantly named Sir Chauncey Savage, an unashamed social climber who is happy to accumulate debt and bluster his way into higher circles. A chance to increase his standing lands at his feet when he’s given the opportunity to host the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. Foy, meanwhile, plays his smart and razor-sharp wife, Lady Savage, with the two determined to present themselves well, even if things start going sideways.

Scary Movie

With the horror genre having such a revival in the last few years, it’s unsurprising that the 2000s comedy franchise Scary Movie is being resurrected to parody it. Expect supremely daft and ridiculous send-ups of recent horror hits like Sinners, The Substance, M3GAN, Weapons and, if we had to bet, A24 horror movies in general. Just as there’s been plenty of Hollywood “legacy sequels” bringing back past characters and plotlines (think 28 Years Later, Scream, Halloween), the new Scary Movie will follow returning protagonists Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) and Shorty Meeks (Marlon Wayans) as they encounter the same masked killer that stalked them decades prior. Whether it’ll all work remains to be seen, but if you love a goofy comedy, Scary Movie might be a good shout.

A Private Life

One of the more notable films to come out of 2025’s Cannes Film Festival, A Private Life is getting a UK release after premiering in France and the US. It stars Jodie Foster in a murder mystery story, playing a psychiatrist, Lillian, who’s trying to keep her own problems in check while treating her patients. She’s shocked to learn of the death of one such client, Paula (Virginie Efira), which has been ruled a suicide. Lilian, however, isn’t convinced and thinks she may have been a victim of murder. She decides to start her own private investigation, where she struggles to make a breakthrough- until she goes to a hypnotherapy session that indicates she may have known Paula better than she thought.

Virginia Woolf’s Night and Day

This upcoming romantic drama is, as the title suggests, an adaptation of the 1919 novel Night and Day by Virginia Woolf. It stars Haley Bennet (Cyrano) as the smart and headstrong Katherine Hilbery, who has a strong passion for astronomy. Forced to deal with the patriarchal attitudes of the day, Katherine is keen to avoid romantic love and attachments, especially since her parents have plans for her to be married off. She immerses herself in scientific research and in the growing suffragette movement, seeking to carve an identity for herself. But she may not remain unattached romantically forever. A large cast with the likes of Lily Allen, Timothy Spall, Jennifer Saunders, Jack Whitehall and Sally Phillips also star.

Office Romance

If you’d rather stay home than go to the cinema, you can also catch Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix romcom this month, where she stars opposite Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein. Office Romance sees J-Lo play high-powered airline CEO Jackie Cruz, who’s known for running her businesses strictly and professionally. A core tenet of hers is a tightly enforced “no fraternisation” policy amongst her employees, meaning office match-ups are forbidden. But Jackie’s own policy and ideas are challenged when an attractive new lawyer, Daniel (Goldstein) starts working for her, and suddenly she’s trying hard not to break her rules. Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris and Jodie Whittaker also star.
