May is the time for lounging on summer terraces, scrambling for last-minute long weekend getaways, and also, for scouting London’s new restaurant openings. We’ve got our eyes on a new Ukrainian restaurant, a very exciting Dishoom opening and a sleek-looking Italian restaurant which we can’t wait to get ourselves booked into. Here’s our round-up of the new openings in around London to know this month:  

CERU

CERU Restaurants instantly transports you to the sun-soaked shores of the Eastern Mediterranean, with interiors that reflect the colours of the region – we’re talking bright blues, sunny yellows and rich coppers. With a bold fusion-style menu, you can expect dishes like the 12-hour slow-roasted lamb shoulder that’s deeply spiced with a traditional shawarma blend that’s a real showstopper. Seafood fans, don’t miss the crisp battered squid with harissa yoghurt and chargrilled prawns with a spicy tomato fenugreek sauce, and there’s lots more to look forward to.

Permit Room, Notting Hill

It’s been a while since we heard about a new Dishoom opening, so this one’s definitely cause for excitement. Located around a corner of London’s Portobello Road, the all-day bar-café, pays tribute to Mumbai’s permit rooms and beer bars. You can expect Dishoom classics like eggs kejriwal or hot Permit Room French toast. There will also be favourites like aloo tikki chaat, samosas, black daal, berry biryani and lots more.

The Terrace by Pearly Cow, Brighton

Soak up Brighton’s seaside charm at the newly opened Terrace by Pearly Cow. This open-air spot is made for sunny afternoons with spritzes in hand and long, lazy lunches. On the menu, we spotted fruits de mer, dill-cured salmon, an assortment of oysters, wood-fired scallop, wood-fired pizzettes and lots more.

Belly 

A bistro centred around wood-fired cooking, Belly offers a fusion of Filipino and European flavours. To start, there are French classics such as steak tartar with an Asian twist courtesy of cured yolk and nori seasoned crisps. Fishy options include diver scallops cured and warmed through with a malt vinegar and fermented shrimp coconut sauce, or go for a cod tempura slider with Ikura tartar. Main courses centred around wood-fired specialities like wood-fired wagyu picanha with peppercorn and liver sauce, oak-smoked tinola chicken with capers, ginger and coriander salsa verde and Filipino-inspired Beurre Blanc.

Locatelli

Opening in the newly transformed Sainsbury Wing of the National Gallery, renowned chef Giorgio Locatelli is launching a new restaurant in partnership with Searcys. The 80-seat restaurant and adjacent 30-seat bar will serve his signature Italian cuisine, and there will also be a casual espresso bar serving Italian coffee and a maritozzi menu with both sweet and savoury Roman pastries. At the restaurant, the menu can take you from antipasti and fresh pasta to classic secondi and Italian desserts, paired with a curated all-Italian wine list by Martin Dibben and Virgilio Gennaro.

Kokin

Kokin, an expansive new Japanese woodfire restaurant, is set to open on the 7th floor of The Stratford. The restaurant is the creation of internationally renowned Chef Daisuke Shimoyama. Guests can expect dishes like the woodfire charcoal-grilled turbot, created by grilling the bones with woodfire to make the stock and sauce, which is then combined with Kyoto white miso and served with the turbot. The dedicated sushi bar offers an authentic sushi omakase, with bluefin tuna nights showcasing the respectful deconstruction and preparation of the whole fish. On the drinks menu, you can look forward to a curated selection of wines and sakes alongside a diverse menu of refined Japanese-inspired cocktails.

Osteria Angelina

The new pasta and grill restaurant from the Angelina Dalston team opens this month. Expect cuisine that takes inspiration from Japanese and Italian cuisine, with a list of more than 300 Italian wines. Embracing the traditional osteria style of northern Italy, the restaurant will offer a relaxed dining experience with fresh pasta, Binchotan fired grills delivering big grill cuts for sharing, from
whole fish to ribeye steaks and a signature dish on the menu will be an Angelina take on the Italian favourite Gran Bollito Misto that’s served tableside.

Sino

Serving refined, Ukrainian-inspired food, from founder Polina Sychova and chef Eugene Korolev, Sino will open its doors in Notting Hill this May.

The restaurant will serve a menu that reimagines authentic Ukrainian dishes.

Dishes include cherry glazed BBQ catfish, fried parsley root, samphire, kovbasa (a traditional Ukrainian sausage spice with paprika), dried grated mussels and bell pepper sauce and more.

Town

Town is helping to pioneer a new kind of relationship with growers by investing in and growing alongside farmers using progressive and regenerative approaches. Dishes will include tempura sage leaves drizzled in chilli and honey, day boat crudo, tomato water and Todoli grapefruit, Romney Marsh hogget with chianti and anchovy butter and Welsh lobster with lardo and Town XO. For Town Bar, Kevin Armstrong (from Satan’s Whiskers) has developed a menu of classics and originals, including aperitifs, smaller serve cocktails and lower ABV drinks.

Bibi’s

Opening on Cullum Street, Bibi’s will offer healthy, wholesome lunches to fuel office goers through the day. On the menu, we spotted Bibi’s signature salad which includes a variety of six different Mediterranean salads served with additional toppings and dressings. Each of Bibi’s salads is homemade using fresh ingredients and include the likes of spiced bulgur wheat with cucumber, turmeric with chickpeas and rocket, glazed roasted carrots with thyme, white cabbage and black cumin seeds, homemade hummus, and mixed leaves. There are also options like grilled halloumi and falafel – the menu changes seasonally, so there’s always something new to explore.

hello JoJo

A brand new restaurant and bakery on Camberwell’s Church Street, created by locals Jo Lavender and Rob Newlan, this new spot serves as a love letter to the neighbourhood. The all-day eatery has a menu of seasonal dishes – think Bakers eggs, tomato jam, house rasher, raclette in the morning, skate cheeks, bonito mayonnaise, seaweed and malt vinegar caramel for lunch, and larger plates like Tamworth pork chop with spring garlic soubisse to follow in the evenings. The bakery will serve freshly baked bread and pastries, including a chocolate rye Swiss roll, marmalade tarts and pizza buns.

Myrtos

Chef Asimakis Chaniotis, formerly of Michelin-starred Pied à Terre, will open Myrtos this May in South Kensington. Inspired by his Athenian roots and childhood holidays in Kefalonia, Myrtos will showcase regional Greek ingredients and traditions through technically precise, elevated cooking. The 80-cover space, designed with natural materials, olive trees, and artworks by Greek artists, evokes the charm of Greece, with a menu of shareable mezze and larger plates includes dishes such as snail flatbread with Metsovone cheese, lobster giouvetsi, and pink bream with a lemon-herb sauce. Plus, there will be a cocktail list crafted in partnership with Athens’ award-winning Line bar.
