Spring has sprung, and it feels like a great time for new beginnings – even so for London’s food and drink scene. April is a pretty exciting time for new restaurant openings and we’ve got some good ones on our radar this month. From a great seafood restaurant with a renowned chef at the helm to a fun live music venue, these are the new April openings to look forward to this month:

Tom Brown at the Capital

This intimate 28-cover restaurant will champion Tom Brown’s signature style of clean, creative, and flavour-led dishes with a strong emphasis on seafood. Sustainability is at the core of the restaurant’s philosophy, with Tom dedicated to using responsibly sourced seafood and finding innovative ways to minimise waste by using every part of the fish. The restaurant will offer refined dinner tasting menus and include dishes such as wild bass with buttermilk and vanilla, tuna with soy and quail egg, monkfish with roast chicken and wild garlic, and turbot with smoked eel and black truffle. 

Sustainability is at the core of the restaurant’s philosophy.

Tatar Bunar 

Tatar Bunar, a Ukrainian restaurant from duo Alex Cooper and Anna Andriienko, is the pair’s first London venture that promises to bring delicious traditional Ukrainian cuisine to London. Drawing inspiration from Alex’s hometown, Tatarbunary in Southern Ukraine, Head Chef Kate Tkachuk will pay homage to decades-old family traditions with a menu led by Alex’s mother’s recipes. From traditional dishes like varenyky (AKA dumplings) to borscht and a traditional beetroot soup, you can expect food and interiors that champion Ukrainian culture.

Alf’s

Alf’s is a new dining room upstairs at The Alfred Tennyson pub in Belgravia, which will serve a refined menu exploring British and French classics. Expect to see dishes like paté en croute, oysters, dressed Cornish crab and Hereford beef tartare, served tableside. Mains include slow-cooked lamb shoulder, roasted brill with Cornish mussels and smoked mackerel sauce and grilled monkfish with bouillabaisse. For pudding, there’s pistachio soufflé, baked Alaska with raspberries or a Pump Street chocolate and olive oil mousse.

Panadera Soho

Florence Mae Maglanoc, owner of the much-loved Filipino restaurant Donia, is launching a new bakery, Panadera Soho, expanding on Panadera’s original concept. This will have a larger space, refreshed design, and a more extensive menu of bespoke counter specials inspired by café culture across East and Southeast Asia.

Expect highlights like the Longanisa sausage roll, a savoury twist on a British staple filled with signature sweet Filipino sausage, and Ube pan suisse filled with vibrant purple yam.

Forza Taps

From 17th April until September, this alfresco spot beneath Forza Wine at the National Theatre is back and it looks like the perfect spring/summer spot. Look forward to natural wines, cold beers and cocktails, all paired with dishes exclusive to the terrace like taralli, garlic toast, and Forza roasted ham and pickles, alongside arrosticini, Forza’s take on Abruzzo’s famous kebab-like skewers. The drinks will be flowing, with wine of every colour on tap from a Frizzante to a crisp Grenache-Syrah rosé from Roussillon.

Josephine Marylebone

Esteemed restaurateurs Claude and Lucy Bosi will open the doors to their much-anticipated second Josephine site – the first being in Chelsea – nestled in the heart of Marylebone. A culinary homage to the golden age of 19th-century Parisian brasserie culture, the new opening will have an emphasis on Fruits de Mer and outstanding British seafood – complete with the addition of an oyster bar for a quick dozen and some Champagne

Corner Corner

If you’re looking for a new live music restaurant to head to Corner Corner looks like it’s going to be a fun spot. The multi-use destination in the heart of Canada Water will have a curated food hall, a cultural program of events and London’s largest vertical farm by Harvest London. A crossroads of food, culture and community, look forward to everything from sustainable farming and street food to live music and curated events.

Kung Fu Mama

Ottolenghi co-founder, Noam Bar-Chang, and the founder of Kung Fu Mama Retail, Chris Hsu, are at the helm of the new Taiwanese noodle bar, Kung Fu Mama. Set to open on Long Acre, Covent Garden, the eatery will be dedicated to showcasing a contemporary take on authentic Taiwanese flavours via delicious, healthy, affordable dishes crafted using Kung Fu Mama Retail’s signature sun-dried noodles.

La Spot

Opening in Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, La Spot fuses the best of French and Spanish cuisine. Founded off the back of shared obsessions for brioche, tapas, and wine among the restaurant’s three founders, La Spot will serve dishes like the brioche octopus hot dog (slow-cooked octopus tentacle in onion marmalade with Makato cheese, potato julienne and hot paprika), oxtail and cheddar (pulled oxtail with red wine sauce, cheddar, black pepper, and wild rocket), red prawns (cooked with kimchi, fresh ginger, and crispy rice) and veggie options like sauteed vegetables with garlic, green apple, tomato juice and goat (or vegan) cheese.

La Spot fuses the best of French and Spanish cuisine.

One Club Row

One Club Row, a new restaurant from chef Patrick Powell, James Dye, and Benjy Leibowitz, is to open in Shoreditch in late March. Located on the first floor above the trio’s previously announced pub, The Knave of Clubs, One Club Row will be an entirely separate space, with its own dedicated private entrance from the narrow street at the rear of the building. One Club Row pays tribute to the best of New York hospitality and is ideal for long lunches and late dinners, bar dining, people-watching, and one too many martinis.

Bubala 

Marc Summers, founder of acclaimed Middle Eastern restaurant Bubala, will open a third London location in King’s Cross this April. The two-floor venue will feature Bubala’s first outdoor terrace and a menu that includes oyster mushroom skewers and confit latkes, charred cucumber tzatziki and fava bean with vadouvan braised broad beans. Look forward to wood-fired dishes like mujadara and spanakopita börek and the Bubala’s Big Pud, a mix of chocolate mousse, brûléed bananas, coconut caramel, tahini, and sesame snaps.
