What if there was only one night of the year where your were allowed to have sex if you were single? In One Night Only, that’s exactly the case. Helmed by Easy A and Anyone But You director Will Gluck, it stars both Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro as leads, following two New Yorkers who are single and searching for love on that single night. Here’s everything you need to know:

What is One Night Only about?

The basic premise of the movie has already been compared to The Purge, the hit series of thrillers in which crime is legal once per year. At the centre of the film are Allie (Barbaro) and Owen (Turner), two strangers who are each searching for something deeper than a fleeting encounter. Owen sadly has recently been dumped, despite being hopelessly romantic. Allie, meanwhile, remains an optimistic romantic hoping to find a genuine, lasting connection with someone out there. Their two paths will cross on the night, however, when the most singletons are feeling distinctly unromantic and don’t mind being casual and fleeting.

That first chance meeting seems to go well as both sense chemistry and a connection, but deciding what to do between them won’t be easy. We follow along as our two characters experience a series of misunderstandings, detours and increasingly chaotic side adventures that repeatedly pull them apart as they race across the city, all over the course of one long evening. Along the way, both Allie and Owen will question and ponder what they really want from love and relationships.

Is there a trailer, and who else stars?

Universal has already released the official trailer, which introduces audiences to the world in the film that’s like our own but definitely different. It also showcases what will surely be one of the big draws for the film, the chemistry between Barbaro and Turner- and it looks like it’ll be a good pairing. From what we’ve seen so far and from the early press releases, expect some classic romantic comedy staples with a fun but slightly oddball premise- and the main hook definitely has us intrigued.

Alongside the two leads, the film features an eclectic supporting cast including Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, King Princess, Ziwe and Ben Marshall. Veteran stars Molly Ringwald and LeVar Burton also appear in key roles.

When does it release?

The good news is we don’t have to wait too long to catch One Night Only in cinemas, with its UK release date set for 28th August 2026.
