The trend for travertine is far from waning. Serving dishes, lamps and plinths have all been created from this textured stone, however for the most impact you’ve got to go big…

Your coffee table is the ultimate finishing touch, especially as it brings the room together. Furthermore, it frames all your treasured possessions from chic design books and candles to vases and rattan trays. So picking the right one is a must. Options include marble, wood or glass numbers, but travertine is the current stone of choice. Riffing of ‘70s style, we couldn’t be more on board. Plus, #Travertine currently has more than 460k posts on Instagram and Architectural Digest recently declared it the new must-have stone

Second to marble, Travertine is the most popular stone used in architecture and interior design for many reasons. It’s a limestone formed by mineral deposits from natural springs with distinctive yet beautiful irregular pores. It can be polished to a high shine or left in its natural state for a more rustic look and comes in a vast array of earthy colours including cream, grey, beige, and brown. There’s no wonder it’s so popular.

Cult brand Gubi, also known for its covetable accent chairs, has designed the aptly named ‘Epic Coffee Table’ in travertine after the epic poems of ancient times. Inspired by Greek columns, the sculptural piece of furniture is a seductive example of interior decor. Likewise, Soho Home’s take on the trend is a thing of beauty with its bevelled edges and distinct colours. At Aime Té, they predominantly focus on marble, but their variation on the travertine coffee table is magnificent.

Alternatively you could go down the vintage route, which will guarantee a truly unique original piece. 1st Dibs, Vinterior and Pamono will serve you well with a selection of Italian midcentury designs. Your finished look will be infinitely elegant, minimal, and while travertine is very of the moment, it is also irrefutably timeless.
