Hannah Waddingham Plays An Elite Assassin In New Comedy Thriller Ride or Die

From Ted Lasso to Sex Education, we’ll watch anything with Hannah Waddingham- which is why we’re definitely interested in Amazon Prime’s new action-comedy-thriller series Ride or Die. Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (Truth Be Told, Fruitvale Station) stars as Debbie, a normal woman who is best friends with Waddingham’s character, Judith. Their friendship and lives are thrown into chaos when Debbie discovers that Judith is actually an assassin. Here’s all we know so far.
What is Ride or Die about?
Ride or Die centres on lifelong best friends Debbie Claybourne (Spencer) and Judith Burton (Waddingham)- two women who believe they know absolutely everything about each other. But for Debbie, that turns out not to be entirely true, and secrets that Judith has been concealing from her will soon turn her world upside down. Out of the blue, she discovers that Judith has been living a double life and keeping Debbie in the dark about it: Judith is actually a highly trained international assassin.

Once Debbie finds out, things move fast- their lives become even more complicated when a mission connected to Judith’s past goes disastrously wrong, forcing both of them to flee together across Europe. Suddenly, they find themselves pursued by deadly criminals, law enforcement agencies and other mysterious forces who seem determined to eliminate them. As the pair race against time from one dangerous situation to the next, they’re on a mission to survive- but Debbie is also now questioning their friendship since she knows Judith is a very different person from who she thought. Can their close relationship survive after decades of deception- even if it was for their own good?
Who else stars?
In Prime’s recently unveiled trailer, Judith is very blunt when she reveals her secret identity: “Deb, I’m an assassin. I kill terrible people, for money.” There are gunshots and chaos, and yet in the midst of it all, glimpses of the pair’s close friendship when they’re not being shot at. The trailer also suggests Deb will end up involved in some high-octane stuff as she’s seen breaking into a locked door and jumping off a train. It certainly looks like fun- and Amazon’s series will be eight episodes, releasing all at the same time.
Alongside Spencer and Waddingham, the cast includes Bill Nighy (Living), Ed Skrein (Jurassic World Rebirth), Sylvia Hoeks (A Sacrifice), Calam Lynch (Sweetpea), Savannah Steyn (Good Boy) and Jamie Parker (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child).
When does it release?
The good news is we don’t have long to wait, with Ride or Die set to premiere globally on Prime Video on 15 July 2026. While you wait, you can watch the full trailer below.
