Shell Interiors Are Having A Moment – 52 Pieces We Love
Shell interiors are everywhere right now, from statement wallpapers to quirky lamps and sweet trinket dishes to store your jewels in. Here are some of our favourites, bringing retro charm to your living space.
From the surrealist glamour of Art Deco architecture to literal shells made into lamps and decorative pieces in the ’70s, seascape-inspired interiors are nothing new. We’ve been captured by their natural beauty long before they took up residence in our homes – just look at Botticelli’s ‘The Birth of Venus’. In short, shells, in their gloriously rustic form are beautiful and intriguing, and their scalloped edges play perfectly into an interior aesthetic.
If you want to nod to the trend without going too literal with pieces picked from the beach, soft furnishings and art prints are an easy and quick way to do so. We love the Stoff Studio’s ruffled edge shell print cushion against a vintage striped chair, as seen here by interiors design company, Holla.
Equally, prints are an easy and affordable way to update the walls and bring some personality to a space. There is an abundance of great beach scene-inspired pieces around right now, from Melissa Wong’s cool blue coral quartet to Hotel Magique’s ocean and clam print – both of which add a sense of calm.
Speaking of clam, the shape is everywhere in interiors right now and at the forefront is Matilda Goad with her signature giant clam-shaped dishes. Use one as a a quirky alternative to a fruit bowl or to just sit pretty alone on a coffee table, or to house an overspil of keys/post/lip balms/sunglasses on a console in the hallway.
Finally, and by far our favourite, has to be Millie-May Stott’s Ceramic Oyster Shell Pinch Pot. Add it to your dinner party set up for a quirky, cool way to serve the salt.
