Meet Our New Social Media Guru, Sydney
You might have noticed that our Instagram has had something of a glow-up recently (if you haven’t already checked out @thehandbooknews we’re pretty confident you’re going to love it). To tie in with our next chapter of creating amazing content for you, we’ve just welcomed our new Social Media Manager, Sydney Smiley. Here, we catch up with Sydney so you can get to know the latest member of The Handbook Team…
Where do you find trends and inspiration?
Can you guess? Social media is my first source of inspiration. Nowadays you have access to so much information online and can see what people are wearing, eating and doing all over the world. I also love to read a range of publications and subscribe to different newsletters to constantly be in the know.
What’s your preferred social platform and why?
I’d say either TikTok or Pinterest. TikTok is becoming an app that I go to for everything- entertainment, inspiration, a search engine for information. I also love Pinterest for imagery and inspiration, it reminds me of Tumblr (throwback) where everything feels like it fits on a huge vision board.
What’s a social media trend you’re expecting to be everywhere in 2024?
Long-form content. I think Social Media platforms are looking for the next generation to use their platforms to replace TV and movies. YouTube is already doing this but I can see Instagram and TikTok trying to monopolise on that. I mean, all the platforms are trying to become like one another… ahem, Threads…
What’s an account you’re obsessed with right now?
There’s honestly so many I could say. My favourite accounts right now would be:
@__mmaxinewylde inspires me to have more fun with my outfits and wear what makes me feel good.
@skinbylottie will update you with all the latest skincare and beauty products – she has the ultimate collection.
@matildabeaa showcases all things beauty, interiors & lifestyle and hosts the coolest dinner parties.
@johannawolday is definitely one to watch. I love all her outfits- she has the coolest style. She’s also only just started posting to instagram and has already passed 10k within a week and is still growing.
Which celebrity or brand is really killing it on social media?
REFY, I absolutely love their branding, how they market their product in unique ways and, of course, Jess Hunt is the absolute icon.
