Whether teamed with a vintage pair of dungarees or your faithful 501s, you can’t go wrong with a pretty spring blouse this time of year.
If there is one wardrobe piece we wear on repeat, it’s a pretty spring blouse. From ditsy print florals à la Isabel Marant to Victoriana-inspired white ruffles, few things elevate a pair of jeans so effortlessly. It’s a look that will come back time and time again (we’ve been adding to our collection for years) so it’s worth investing in pieces that flatter your shape, colours and prints that speak to you and quality that will stand plenty of wear.
Mango
Ruffled Embroidered Shirt

We love the intricate detailing on Mango’s pretty blue blouse which feels like it could be vintage. Add a rock ‘n’ roll edge by pairing with straight-leg denim, brown ankle boots and an oversized leather jacket for a failsafe look that always works.

Top of the wish list is, quite obviously, Isabel Marant who has honed the grown-up bohemian look to a T. This season we’re loving her Soraya floral embroidered blouse with its pops of pink floral detailing. Pair with leather trousers and suede ankle boots to toughen it up a little. For a similar feel but with a more modest price tag, the mid-range Parisian brands are where to look. Sézane has some great 1970s-inspired front ruffle blouses – great with cord or denim flares for a Daisy Jones and the Six vibe – whilst Claudie Pierlot does a great high ruffle neck and pretty ditsy print.
Sézane

Go tonal by pairing Sézane’s white and yellow ruffle blouse with some wide-leg white jeans. This season’s fringed and beaded accessories will add a Western flare.

The high street is full of great options too. We love & Other Stories’ ‘80s approach this season – ruffled taffeta blouses with bejeweled buttons and puff sleeved blouses with sweet floral corsages on the neckline – which feel a little more dressed up and perfect for evening. Mango is also a stellar option for blouses on a budget, this season they have loads with intricate lace detailing, tasteful floral prints and sweet sherbet shades.
Whilst a pretty blouse and a pair of trusty jeans may be our go-to, these tops are really versatile for the warmer months. Layer under dungarees for a retro feel or tucked into this season’s midi denim skirt for a grown-up take on boho. We also love a white lace blouse open over a swimsuit and paired with an oversized straw boater by the pool. Softer and little different to a classic linen shirt.
