Squid Game Dramatic Final Season Is One To Watch

Pop culture phenomenon Squid Game has come to an end with the third and final season that dropped on Netflix on 27th June. This last outing will see our embattled protagonist Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-jae) prepare to face the deadly games one more time, after the cliffhanger ending of Season 2 left him even more determined to destroy the Squid Game for good. There’ll be the same nail-biting tension that has become the series’ signature as he embarks on his mission- here’s all you need to know:
What is Squid Game Season 3 about?
It’s only been six months since the previous season of Squid Game was released back in late December, becoming another hit for Netflix after the worldwide success of Season 1. This season is set to pick up immediately from where Season 2 left off, after Gi-Hun had entered the Squid Games for a second time, with the goal of ultimately destroying them from the inside. But at the end of the finale *spoiler alert* he was left devastated by his best friend, Jung-bae(Lee Seo‑hwan) being brutally murdered by the villainous Front Man, also known as In-Ho (Lee Byung-hun) who had spent the whole season hiding in plain sight as one of the players. Gi-Hun’s planned rebellion is thwarted, and he’s taken into captivity with seemingly no way forward.

But of course, that can’t be the end, and Season 3 is set to open with the worn-down Gi-Hun picking himself back up to prepare for an even deadlier set of games. The latest trailer for this new season opens with a voice-over from Geum-ja (Kang Ae-sim), one of the other contestants, saying, “ No matter how you look at it, life is just unfair. Bad people do bad things, but they blame others and go on to live in peace. Good people, on the other hand, beat themselves up about the smallest things.” Gi-Hun knows he’ll have to get past this crushing defeat to do what’s right in ending the Squid Game, and it seems he may also get some unexpected aid in his mission: Netflix has teased that there’s a traitor to the Front Man who has yet to be revealed. In the meantime, In-Ho’s brother Jun-ho (Wi Ha-Joon) continues to search for the island where the games are held to stop his sibling.
What else do we know, and when can I watch?
The final season of Squid Game is slightly shorter than the previous two, with six episodes in total. While this is the definitive end of Netflix’s most-watched series ever, which creator Hwang Dong-hyuk had originally only intended to be one season, the head writer has teased that he has ideas for a spin-off series that could follow.
