The Ned

The Ned opened in 2017 after five years of careful work to transform the former Midland Bank building, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1924, into a fresh and relevant destination. This Grade-I listed building now offers 250 bedrooms and suites that draw inspiration from the 1920s and 1930s, combining vintage furniture, hand-knotted rugs, rainforest showers, and rich brass and mahogany details.

The hotel’s food and drink options span the globe across twelve restaurants and bars within the historic banking hall and lower ground floor. Each space has a distinct character, separated by verdite columns and walnut counters. Highlights include Malibu Kitchen with its Californian menu, Cecconi’s classic Italian, Millie’s Lounge British brasserie, Electric Bar & Diner’s diner classics, Kaia’s modern Asian-Pacific bowls and Lutyens Grill’s international steakhouse offerings. The Parlour jazz and cabaret bar offers live entertainment, while guests can relax at the Nickel Bar with champagne and martinis.

The design of The Ned captures the glamour of the 1920s and 1930s, inspired by ocean liners like the Normandie and the Art Deco elegance of the Orient Express. The team carefully researched the bank’s archives to restore and enhance its original features, such as the verdite columns and walnut banking counters. Beyond bedrooms and restaurants, the hotel also offers grooming services, making The Ned a complete city destination where heritage meets thoughtful, modern hospitality.

You might not know but..

Opened in 2017 after a five-year restoration, The Ned stands as one of London’s most ambitious hotel projects in recent memory. Set within the Grade I-listed former Midland Bank—originally designed in 1924 by Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens—the hotel blends Art Deco glamour with design cues drawn from 1930s ocean liners and the Orient Express.

At its heart is the spectacular 3,000-square-metre banking hall, now home to twelve restaurants and bars offering cuisines that range from Californian and Italian to Asian-Pacific, Mexican, and traditional British dining.

Since its debut, The Ned brand has expanded to New York (NoMad), Doha, and Washington, D.C., with each property celebrating and preserving the character of its historic setting.
