Thanks to Rodizio Rico, London’s authentic Churrascaria de Rodizio, a Brazilian carnival atmosphere is at play in Fulham Broadway – spilling out onto the street courtesty of a stunning alfresco Caipirinha Bar.
But what is Churrascaria? Prounounced ‘shoe-hoss-korea’ it means barbecue in Portuguese and Rodizio means rotating. Just like in its native Brazil, there’s no formal menu so diners pay a fixed price and carvers pass from table to table, slicing sizzling roasted meats – straight from a charcoal fire – from skewers onto your plate.
Experienced passador carvers glide from table to table with a huge array of meats including pork, ribs, chicken breast wrapped in bacon, chicken wings, leg of lamb and beef in a variety of cuts from silverside to picanha, as well as authentic specialities such as chicken hearts. Ask the passador for cuts from the centre or outside of the grill depending on how rare you like your meat.
Diners can also help themselves to a groaning table of traditional Brazilian dishes from rich pork and bean stew known as Feijoada to tempting gooey cheese bread called Pao de Queljo plus plenty of salads, pasta, potato and rice dishes. And if you have any space left, choose from desserts of rich chocolate mousse, coconut pudding or hot juicy pineapple from the grill.
To drink, there’s everything from wines to cold beers and oodles of spirits but we recommend you go native with a Caipirinha or three. Sao Paulo here we come: see you on the beach!
