If You Wear One Colour This Season, Make It Burgundy
There is no hiding it, burgundy fashion is everywhere right now. This deep, decadent timeless shade is guaranteed to elevate any outfit and is definitely this season’s most luxurious colour. Here’s how to add it to your wardrobe with effortless style…
We’ve had fun with reds, got sophisticated in hints of chocolate, but for something a little more indulgent this Autumn/Winter, we’re reaching for the wine – the colour, obviously. This intense red is elegant, much like a glass of Malbec; it complements both pared-back tailoring and relaxed weekend style. Picture a sleek burgundy handbag with a grey suit or jumper dress. Or perhaps Miu Miu-style slingbacks with slouchy trousers. It’s the understated pop of colour, especially for those of us not feeling too pop-y right now.
You can either opt for hints of this fortified hue or brave a top-to-toe outfit, which I am all for. It’s less out there than a red dress, but still catches the eye. From YSL and The Row to Arket and Mango, it’s not hard to find the latest burgundy fashion, so here’s something to inspire and get you started. Let’s call it a bit of fashion wine tasting…
Burgundy is firmly at the forefront of the colour trends for AW24. Spotted on the runways at Gucci, Victoria Beckham, Tom Ford, YSL… the list goes on. You get the picture. This luxe colour will always be a classic, but right now, it’s a wardrobe must.
Top to toe in deep red
We’re talking dresses or jumpsuits; suits or trench coats. You are literally dripping in burgundy. I’m loving the blazer and trouser co-ord, specifically the leather set from LouLou Studio. Accessorise with cream, gold or black for sartorial perfection.
Handbags
The easiest way to adopt this current go-to shade is through your accessories. A wine-coloured tote cradled in the crook of your arm suggests class with personality. Ganni’s offering is playful, while luxury labels, Paris 64 and Aspinal Of London, serve up a more grown-up elegance.
Knitwear
Nothing beats a cosy knit at this time of year, but colour it burgundy and we’re talking comfort and class. Worn with other darker shades, this relaxed piece instantly feels elevated and chic. Make Cos your first stop, followed by Zara and New Look, for snuggly sweaters, cardis and roll necks.
Footwear
From loafers and ankle boots to ballet pumps and slingbacks, burgundy heels are having a moment. They add colour without adding too much drama; they feel statement-worthy without screaming at you. For something super affordable, I’m heading straight to Zara for the divine patent loafers. Sézane is a must for the most gorgeous knee-high boots.
