Tangerine Dreams: How To Make Orange Interiors Work In Your Home
Orange interiors might sound daunting but, when done well, they can bring a whole new mood to your living space. From tangerine sofas to artwork in zesty hues and tablescapes that work year-round, here’s why we’ve fallen for all things orange…
Go bold with an orange sofa…
Jewel-toned sofas are no new trend – we’ve seen a lot of rich emerald greens and dark inky blues in recent years, even gold-hued citrine styles – but the orange sofa still feels somewhat daring. It shouldn’t be. Orange works so brilliantly with so many other colours, whether that’s navy for something dark and cocooning; greens for something natural and earthy; or a more muted understated colour palette like whites, creams and beige if you want to keep the space bright and light but still have a pop of colour. It also works beautifully with pretty pastel tones – a soft blush pink or a delicate eggshell blue.
The options with orange are endless. Who knew?

Accent with orange accessories…
Whether you rent or just don’t fancy making any big moves with colour right now, accessories are the easiest (and cheapest) option for a hit of dopamine-inducing colour. We love Addison Ross’ scalloped-edge high-shine finish trays to nestle on an ottoman or tidy up your at-home bar – they also make excellent Christmas gifts for interior lovers FYI.
Lighting maketh the room and Pooky’s orange lampshades in pretty pleated orange linens will add a warm glow to a space. Their vibrant prints look great unlit in the day against clashing bold colours or prints and really come to life in the evening to set an inviting mood.
Finally, pops of colour can come in all forms and we love design house, Studio Ashby’s, tangerine-hued tome which delves into their extraordinary use of colour.

Drench the table in orange dinnerware…
Have a bit of fun with your next tablescape and add some orange tones. The shade works well for the autumnal months, mixed with earthy browns and mossy greens, but come summer add in pops of red, pink, sunshine yellow and seasonal blooms and the look will take on an entirely different feel.
Current favourites in fiery orange shades are Mrs Alice’s genius and charming lantern tea lights – battery-powered and dainty enough to see over the top, they are perfect for making a sprawling dinner party of a midweek meal for two feel intimate. Whilst Anna + Nina’s candy-striped scalloped plates will add layer and texture to your tabletop.

Be brave with orange walls…
Orange walls may feel terrifying to some, but bear with us. Orange can take on a far more subtle mood than you might think. If you’re looking to go bold with paint, consider covering smaller areas rather than the entire room (although that can look incredible, too), whether that’s behind bookshelves, on furniture, or joinery, as in this Sussex children’s room designed by Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay.
When it comes to wallpapers, we love the confident stripe of Hamilton Weston’s design which is brought down a notch with the brown paper bag alternate colour. Or, Jane Clayton’s whimsical wiggle print that proves orange can be done in a subtle way.
